We are getting a Sony PS3 soon.

I have no experience with online gaming or PS3. I have some questions.

1. Will Sony PS3 connect to laptop with shared HSDPA modem over WIFI?
2. Will latency be low enough for acceptable gaming on PS3?
3. How much gaming can I do with 2GB?
3. If the Sony PS3 cannot connect to my ad-hoc wifi setup, then please advise on affordable 3G WIFI router.

It's not that straight forward to set-up, but I'm sure it could work. I am using HSDPA from my laptop and have connected my PS3 to the internet using a cross-network cable - then just set up the IP addresses on PC and PS3...works fine - good speeds too. Although, I would think an adsl solution might be more cost effective? maybe someone else can help further.

Good luck.

Hi

Adsl would be more cost effective.

I setup a PS3 and 360 at the same time on a B970 router very simple

Thanks, but ADSL would be far more expensive, since I already have 3 Vodacom data contracts and all the necessary equipment. Telkom would still have to come and install a line. Then I would also need to pay monthly rental and ADSL access.

I am going to bargain on it that HSDPA should be good enough, since I am only starting in the online gaming domain. :)

Ps3 is good for online gaming as you dont have to buy MS points to play online .
Only draw of 360

Lets see where do I start to try and help..........

HSDPA works BUT, its flipping expensive.

Well if you in a situation like me where you cant use anything else but 3G then speak to vodacomdata he will point you in the right direction

Also register on www.ps3za.co.za there ARE tons of threads that will help you.

Some ps3 games run easily while some you might suffer lag, and till today I am yet to discover lag on 3G im using a B970 router

At the end of the day ADSL is the best way for gaming but if you cant get it then 3G might be your answer, also depending on what games you playing as some can be extremely hectic on data
