So, my year-old Sony component setup conked out on its HDMI functionality on the 3rd of December. Into the car, and off to Makro where I bought the setup... Now, Strubens Valley Makro and I come a long way - I've spent an inordinate amount of money there over the years. As such, the manager was more than happy for me to take a credit at purchase price, and pay in the difference on a new component setup.

Very chuffed, I saunter over to the electronics' section, only to end up being utterly bemused and befuddled 5 minutes later. You see, I bought my Sony setup with very specific requirements in mind - HDMI repeating, bookshelf speakers, etc. But oh, my... my system's no longer being stocked & all Makro now have are these f'ng HUGE systems that I don't have room for... :(

So, I thank the manager for being willing to exchange, but resign myself to having my current system repaired as the others are just impractically massive. I find out from them that Powercare are the licensed Sony repair agents, so off to Midrand the next morning...

Long story short: After various instances of being given the wrong information, Powercare ordering the wrong parts and heaven knows what else, I finally lose my cool this past Monday. I phoned up Sony SA, letting rip from a dizzying height as to the ineptitude of their repair partners. I get excuses & placations, none of which satisfy me, so my tirade continues. Finally the chick on the other end says I should check the Sony SA website to see which current systems will fill my needs. I have a looky & spot my current setup on their site not once, but twice - bundled with an HDMI DVD player and without. "No, we don't bring those in any more." "Fine", I say, "then give me the DDW5500, and I'm not willing to pay extra!!!111!11!!!eleventy!!oneone!!!"

And, they do...

So, now I've got to rearrange my entire flat to make things fit, basically swinging my living room through 90 degrees. But I couldn't NOT take it - it's a R7k system where I paid R3.5k for my original setup! I'm going to end up with the masonry equivalent of a Lenz CITI - one times audio system with a car attached - but hey, it didn't cost me anything extra!

Bottom line: Mastercare, you suck big sweaty donkey balls. Sony SA, you've got a customer for life! See you in 3 days once I've moved everything... :erm:

:D:D:D

Thanks your frustration made me chuckle, could picture you going ballistic :D

LOL :D

I had a similar bad experience with Mastercare, and good experience with Sony SA, a couple of years ago.

Sony SA will come to the party (once you throw your toys !).

I always maintained ... Sony SA rocks .... congratulations on scoring big.

Remember to register your product online when you buy .... SOny have always thrown me some nice extras ... like warranty extensions, etc.

That made me lol :D

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

So, living room rotated, all hooked up... everything actually fits. BUT it sounds like there is a dry soldering joint on the front left - faint static through the top of the two drivers. I don't think the chickie at Sony SA was ecstatic to hear my voice again this morning. :(

The two subs rawk, though.

Mastercare are full of ***, when we bought our Wega about 8 years ago they gave us **** too. Kept our set for 3 months with out giving us status reports on it, evenutally we complained to Sony SA then things got moving and they replaced the entire PC board and gave us an additional year's waruntee.

I had an issue with a Sony DVD/SACD player a few years back - where *every* single unit of that model froze at the same point on a certain SACD. I tried about 5 different units.

I hinted at a better model for my findings, but they didn't budge and I had to sell my 2 month ols unit at half the cost privately. Bleh
