How do you come to that conclusion?

At least in SA large companies still require offsite backup for various reasons.

Cloud Storage is not a backup, at least not in most cases.

Like I said, I haven't been involved in that area for many years. I just thought that the tape technology was replaced by something much smaller, quicker, etc.

I think tape is still the cheapest form of backup

VHS tape, yes.

Nearly every large company uses tape backup. It's the only format that can handle extremely large amounts of data cost effectively.
