Hi guys, ive recently purchased a Xperia M4 Aqua so decided to start a thread about it. I previously owned the Xperia U which was too old and too slow so decided to get another Medium of the range device to see how it performs as my mobile useage is basic.

So far here are my pros and cons:

Pros: Well priced at +- R4400.00 and looks like a premium device, Claims to have good battery life, Waterproof (I dont take much underwater pics or look to spill water on it), Average camera given it is 13mp, Supports up to 128gb memory card (im currently using a 32gb), Comes with Android Lollipop, Front and back covers are plastic (Looks a little less stylish BUT less prone to the cracks often seen on Samsung Galaxy S and Iphones)

Cons: Its a little too big due to a 5" screen (I prefer a smaller handset but the Z3 Compact hasnt dropped in price), Doesnt have the range topping Snapdragon 801 processor but I dont notice it at all, Internal memory is realistically 3gb available after all the apps and OS

Thats it for now but lets see how things progress

Where did you buy it from? Does yours have the Dual SIM capability? Do you have the 16GB or 8GB version?

Unfortunately you cannot install apps on the SD card which really sucks. You run out of space on the device really quickly. Other than that, it is a pretty decent phone.

yeah, I wouldn't touch the 8gb version.

I bought it through Vodacom. Unfortunately no dual SIM and only the 8gb version available. The memory card helps with the storage issues

Certain apps can be moved to the SD card from the APP settings menu, as I download more apps I shall have to see how that works out. I wish there was a 16gb version but lucky pics, music and video gets stored on the SD card so that takes care of the storage issue.

Thanks for the feedback Park@82 :) Orange has that device at a bargain price. I got mine on a Vodacom contract

A nice feature is that the charging & headset ports dont have dust/water covers. Sony claims that they have a waterproofing solution without the need for covers

I was thinking about taking this phone but now seems the storage is a problem, its in my budget unless I go for a z2 or pay more per month and go for the z3 compact?(on contract) I would like a 4.8 inch screen ideally and a good HD camera recording capabilities

I bought my M4 through Incredible Connection and it is a Vodacom phone. Here lies the rub, onboard memeory is so small that with all the crap Vodacom AND Sony loads on (which I never use by the way), I constantly receive the message that memory is full. The darn stuff I don't want also demands to be updated every 3rd day or so. If I could wipe the rubbish off permanently I would but really don't even know if this is possible as it is probably embedded. I disable and each time I switch the phone on, zippity do da, they return. Nice phone otherwise. Fast and fairly easy to navigate with it's tweaked Android os.
Would have loved the dual sim but not to be. Solved it with a router and Telkom 5gb bundle for R99 pm. Enough for me. The sim only contract I have has 400 MB pm and when my phone came to life, it updated its software and promptly used my whole month quota in a few minutes. Eish!

DO NOT waste any $$ on the 8Gb version. You will be out of space before you sneeze on it.

Anyone been able to remove the bloat that Vodacom have installed on the 8GB version?

Does it have the camera overheating and poor battery problems of the Z3 and earlier?

It's very difficult to guage the quality of these Xperia (Sony?) phones because the reviews exaggerate.

The M5 has an issue where it shuts down randomly when on LTE. That problem has never been solved - more than a year down the road.
