Sony Xperia V Overheat

Hey Guys

I got a brand new Xperia V last week Friday. It's been getting extremely hot and shutting down on it's own. I read that it's a fail safe to overheating Sony built in. On other forums people recommend updating to the latest firmware which came out about a week ago, but as always Vodacom screws us by not allowing stock upgrades. Anyone else experiencing the same problem or has any advise?
 
I know this is not a good time to say it, but every time I saw the tv ad they pour water over it.
 
My girlfriend also has the Xperia V (for about a month and a half) and I have noticed it tends to heat up when playing games and browsing and she has also mentioned it a few time. Today while downloading a 130mb file, the phone just suddenly rebooted.

So dont worry there is nothing wrong with your Xperia V...it seems it is a general issue. About the update, I see on the sony website it was only released on the 10th of April so maybe we (South africa) will be able to get it sometime soon hopefully as I was able to update my Xperia Z today with an update released 24 march.

lol I dont have any advice except like the others said...throw a glass of water on it :D

Is there anything specific you are doing when the phone overheats and shuts down?? Browsing with LTE enabled?playing games??Just curious
 
I've had the Xperia V about 3 weeks now. It has overheated once. It has also freezes in standby about once a week. Both these issues are are well documented on the Sony forums and are normally related to wifi. They are supposedly fixed with the 10 April update. Otherwise a great phone - responsive, good screen and camera, but I haven't put the water resistance to test yet. Really looking forward to that update getting here.
 
Can someone confirm if the update actually fixed the overheating issue?
 
The first thing I did after receiving my V is update to the new firmware. After using it for more than two months I have never experienced any of the the initial bugs including over heating. It does get hot when surfing the web, like most smartphones, but have never crashed.

My wifes one gets pretty hot too when she plays games etc on it.
It hasnt rebooted yet but it gets pretty warm.
 
The software in sony phones suck, the only way I'll ever buy another Sony phone is if it's Vanilla
 
Since update I've had no problems at all with overheating, freezing or anything else. I'll happily recommend this phone now as being very stable.

Can I ask what firmware version are you on now?? .490 or .14x?? and also mtn or vodacom??

Just asking since I checked this weekend it there was no new update available via PC Companion so still on .490 version.
 
I'm on 9.1.A.140 official firmware.
I downloaded and installed it manually with instructions from Sonymobile forums shortly after it came out. I assumed it would have been pushed through locally, but if not you can try that.

I have a V. And it's a great phone, though it seems like some people are getting heating problems. I've never experienced this though.

If vodacom doesn't allow stock upgrades, then that's a really dodgy move from their side. I'd jusr root the phone to overrule what ever vodacom did. The updates are totally worth it.

About rooting, it's super easy to root this phone. If you want more info on that then PM me.
 
My V isn't rooted. I just used the manual update to get the latest official Sony firmware (stock). That solved all my problems.

It's not that Vodacom don't allow stock upgrades, they are just VERY slow to test and then push them out. On some less popular phones and even popular phones, they never get around to it, despite being available elsewhere.
