Wow that is long... Mine took about 20 minutes, what network are you on?

Actual install from shutdown to full reboot took less than ten minutes, I timed it.
 
Liking it so far. Few visual tweaks, bit smoother. Biggest difference is the battery which lasts about 30-40% longer so I can get about 2 days out of a charge if I'm not chatting constantly.

I DL to PC and then install. Connecting mobile to PC with a cable prevents data charges on 3G.
Once the DL starts you can disconnect the phone until DL is done. So not a problem, just ANNOYING.

I was DLing using ADSL. Maybe the mobile SP was punishing me for not using 3G data, and then not paying them more?!? :p

When I reconnected the mobile it transfered the data very quickly. The reboot was under 10min. :)

:D I'm happy with my TM contract that gives me 5GB a month. Just downloaded OTA and went about my business, chatting and browsing etc while it downloaded, no need for PC companion.
 
I'm really, really impressed with the update. Battery life is awesome, usually my battery would be at 55/60% by 4pm with loads of incoming/outgoing calls & now it's at 79%.

Really like the improvements with the interface & it's exactly as you called it Debeer. Couldn't be happier.:D
 
Anyone know if kitkat is available on the xperia z ultra as well? I'm on MTN and haven't received any prompts this far

I'm got the Z1, I plugged the phone into my PC and searched for updates.
It was avail so I DLed it, I did not wait for the notice...

So have a look for new updates, maybe you are lucky
 
Tnx, phone prompted me to update this afternoon. Finally got kit kat on the xperia z ultra
 
So I finally got time to take my phone in for repairs...turns out I missed my swap-out date with one day. Just my luck :o

I had to resort to using my xperia mini again, I have to say...I really miss my Z1 already, even with it's problems ://
 
I finally received my Z1 compact today from Orange. Very very happy with it so far. Received the OTA updates for Kitkat as well 1st thing. Downloaded over wifi ofcoarse, but I will be on Telkom Mobile prepaid at the end of this month. Really really loving this phone thus far!

Have you managed to find a cover for your phone? I cannot find any store with stock.
 
Finally got my phone back! Screen was replaced and the broken USB flap was also replaced. Only issue I still get is the occasional noise when vibrating, although it seems to be happening less. All was repaired in warranty (weird for the broken flap) and I didn't have to pay a cent. Damn I missed my phone :erm:

Next step is finding a back cover which seems to be impossible for this phone.
 
I don't know about the regular Z1, but I managed to find a cover for my Z1 Compact. Literally walked into Tygervalley mall, visited 2x Voda shops, 1x CellC and 1x MTN shop. The 4th try which was the CellC shop, had both the screen protector and back cover for me. They only had the one which is transparent at the back, and black around the sides of the phone. Said perfect and took it.

Except the back cover is clear plastic.

You can go to Sony stores for covers. I know I saw a few at the Menlyn Sony store last time I was there
 
Has anybody here managed to flash Cyanogenmod on this phone?

If yes. Would you please be so kind to point me to a step by step guide.
