SonyEricsson K750i is HERE

vodacom upgrades department say no

I called vodacom upgrades this morning on 1959 and they say they don't have the phone yet.

I'm surprised cos I've started seeing the phone being advertised in magazines so I would expect that people are going to start hassling them about it.

Anybody else have luck tracking the phone down? I've heard of it happening in the past where people were looking for a phone and certain vodashops had it before vodacom themself had included it in their catalogue?

OK, Tahir has suddenly gone very quiet about this.
Methinks he shot his mouth off on a rumour he heard, because I have called Vodacom, Vodashops, Sony Ericsson and a couple of service providers,and all of them cannot tell me when the K750i is launching.

Tahir, you need to give us cold hard facts on this - has it launched?
What Vodashops have it?

Just my 1 cents worth, and it really is only worth 1 cents, on the vlive branded phones (a Moto E1000 in my case, still relevant here since this topic went into branding and not only about the SE 750i, which I believe is a really good phone):

The one touch access to the vlive portal is a nice feature for most people and for Vodacom. However, it causes me more pain than good. There are two hard programmed buttons that do the same thing - the right soft key and a button on the top right hand side of the phone that goes to the default homepage of the default web session. The soft key is also the default "Exit" key when in the menu and, as you can figure, I tend to press it once more than is required and then again to cancel the phone from starting a data session and costing me money (1 cents worth and please don't argue about the fact that browsing vlive is free as it isn't the point). What was meant to be a user-programmable button is now more of a hindrance than a useful shortcut, especially since it's function is duplicated by a really nice button elsewhere on the phone (with the Vodafone logo printed onto it). I can live with the branding on the exterior of the phone, but taking away my ability to customise my phone's software settings to make my way of working easier, no, I'm amazed I lived with it as long as I did.

I don't know to what lengths the other vlive branded phones are locked down. This is my experience with a Moto E1000 and I can only believe that the other brands are similarly locked to prevent a user from changing the software branding.
 
Tahir is again shooting his mouth off!

After trying his luck on the SA Mobile discussion forum on Esato, Tahir is trying to convince you guys that branded cellphones are cool, well for some people they might be.

I used an SE V800 with Vodafone all over and inside the phone....and there's no way you can customise the menus- all roads lead to Vodafone Live.
 
Guy's this is not new from Tahir, I read other forums, where he also blows his whistle too loud, Tahir please get your ducks in a row..........
 
Ok... after getting seriously annoyed with being told "It should be on next month's pricelist" every month for the past three months, and further spurred on by Tahir's irritatingly teasing post, I decided to do some major phoning around.

Summary is this:

SE head office gave delivery of the first shipment of K750i phones to Vodacom early this week. Info from SE headoffice.

Vodacom do have stock in their warehouse. Info from Vodacom Sales Order Processing Dept. and the Vodacom Warehouse itself.
In addition:

The warehouse informed me that orders are being processed and shipments being sent out, but couldn't give me details of where to for some reason.

The Sales Order Processing Department told me that the first of the back orders have been cleared and that the first shipment had been allocated amongst the various Vodashops and affiliated stores (Vodacare/4U/etc ... don't know if anyone else would be getting just yet). They also said stores that are receiving stock of the K750i are mostly getting between 1 and 10 in this shipment and here in Cape Town they _should_ have by the middle of next week.

Please don't anyone shoot me if this info isn't 100% accurate, rest assured I'm irritated enough at the delay that I'd have shot myself already ;) Or at least be wishing you could physically "interact" with the person on the other side of a phone line ;)
 
Nice one hellburn...your research has had much the same result as mine. From what I gather the current prices and specials are enforced by Vodacom, and the next price/specials rotation starts 1 Sept. As such the K750i should appear on the Sept specials listings.

well, I got mine...

took 3 months but I still got it.

I must say, the original icons for the phone looked way better than the dumb ones I got now.

the phone is as staunch as I had hoped for, excellent pix & erething!

it irritates the **** ouda me that I cannot delete the "V-Live" pictures & sounds ect?

why couldn't "they" leave the phone the way it was? it looked helliva betta?

I jus dont understand...

Is ther any way I can "Format" & "Reinstall" my phones software?

I thought it was just the theme that gave me tho's cheap looking icons... but no.

anyone....?????????
 
You Vodacom boys should count yourselves lucky... I'm with MTN and I'm still waiting for the K750i. And do you think that anyone at MTN can give me an ETA? Hellll no!
 
Im sho this debate can go on & on but I do prefer Vodacom (jus my personal opinion)
altho they did give me a run around... people not knowing things they should...
If I wer you & stil didn get my phone by the end of the month, I'd prolley start convulsing.

ever for a second considerd Vodacom?

ohh yea that meerkat character is really bad, lost a lil respek for vodacom ther.
