Hey guys/girls

Should I be worried about a stiff/sore leg after hour or so in traffic? Normally feel the pain in the bottom of my leg for a few hours after driving.

Distance is 17km to be exact, time traveled is normally 40min-1hour.

The pain is only the right leg.

Plenty of people drive for longer distances in traffic, not sure if they also have this problem?

I know my car seats is not the most comfortable, not sure if this part of the problem.

If it is normal, I will just have to keep on going :P

Question: If you sit on the couch for an hour to watch a program on TV. Does it hurt? If not - its your car seats setting. If yes. Go see a doc.

That's strange would figure it would be on your left leg - Clutch foot.

Maybe readjust the position your heel is on the mat over the pedal

My guesses:
Reduce the angle at which your knee is bent.
If you want, try Antistax - only to check whether it is circulation-related. Or otherwise just exercise to increase your circulation.

Cool will give it a try.

No problems when I sit on the couch.

Check your "tilt angle" if your seat has the ability to tilt. My GTi had seats that were finnicky to get comfy in. As soon as SO got in the car she would adjust to suit her. When I'd get back in - my legs would protest after a couple minutes and normally it was because she had tilted the seat too far back for my height.

Sounds like a good reason to get a new car to me, lol.

I have long legs and could just never find a comfortable seating position in my small hatchback, so my feet would end up in agony after a long Johannesburg -> Cape Town trip.

I'm now getting a more comfortable automatic sedan, so should hopefully be better off.

PS: If you really want to test it, a great idea would be to rent a nice sedan for a day. It's cheaper than buying a car that doesn't solve your problem, and it gives you 24 hours to drive and experiment rather than just a 10 minute test drive.

Probably a nerve in your back.

I have a nerve in my neck giving me issues which causes my arms to go numb if I lay down and sleep. Sometimes both. I will put money on a nerve issue in your lower back!

Try sitting closer to the wheel.

Will require less work to move around while also relieving pressure off the underside of your leg if it is in fact the seat.

Most people sit way too far from the steering wheel anyway in a false sense of control while indirectly also affecting comfort.

We aren't actually supposed to have our legs stretched out permanently. Which is why we automatically go into the fetal position in space and water etc.

What do you mean by "bottom of your leg"? Foot, ankle, calf etc?

The problem for me is the angle of my foot when resting on the accelerator of some cars. The Citi Golf accelerator is mounted on the floor. Driving it is like torture for me for some reason, so I can see where OP is coming from.

Have you tried the same drive in a different car?

I find that I can drive my Aveo for multiple hours without discomfort. It has incredibly "soft" pedals, very little resistance.

My sister's Spark on the other hand requires quite a bit more pressure for the same effect, and I get sore legs within 10-15mins of driving it. It might be the stiff pedals or it could be seating position.

So don't rule out the car before you worry about health and circulation.

But floor mounted is what you want so you don't need to float your foot/leg.

Put heel on ground and relax.

Not sure if they considered "hard" , but did have the pads and discs replaced at the last service.

I drive I20 2010 model.

LOL. My i20 also gave me more drivers fatigue than normal (and I've had a few cars to compare it to). I had a 2013 model if I remember correctly, but it had hard pedals and it's not the best to drive. I think it's because the steering wheel isn't centre for the driver, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, I sold it and got a Jazz. That was sold and I now have a CR-V. It's so comfortable I'm literally looking for excuses to go on long drives.

tl;dr: Your car is ****, get a better one.

I find that when I do this, my foot is angled back too far. With limited seat adjustment, I can't get it into a position which is comfortable for me.

My feet are a bit weird though

Was considering something with auto box and massive amount of space

Volvo S60, bmw 3 series etc.

Sitting a little bit more to the front did help a bit, but will see what budget can do to upgrade. I wanted to sort it out soonish as my commute time will be increasing even more from next month.
