Woke up yesterday with a sore throat that has, today, progressed into a full-on ickification of phlegm and a slight cough. *cries* It's an agonising pain....

Anyone have any suggestions of how to kill the pain? I've been sucking Medi-keel lozenges like there's no tomorrow. The only thing which seems to work is cough syrup, but that's a temporary reprieve at best which wears off in about 5 minutes and I'm not exactly keen on downing the stuff.

Only other thing that seems to work is - believe it or not - coke. The gas seems to keep the irritation at bay.

Suggestions would be welcome :(

I'd stay away from the Coke bru .... that just creates more phlegm. I find the anti-bacterial, no sugar Strepsils work the best for me. Other than that, up your vitamin c intake, drink lots of water, take a medlemon or disprin before sleep and hope for the best. Good luck with it bru :o

Thanks, Mephisto_Helix :)

I'm going to have to ask other half to find me some of those Strepsils then... Regarding these Medi-keep things... I might as well be popping smarties...

Vit C - I've popped 8 of those in the last 48 hours...

Water - I tend to down about 500ml each time I finish a glass of coke :p I has a beer mug :p

Medlemon/Disprin - Medlemon just makes me feel ill. Well... more ill. I don't like Disprin though :x I did take 2 panados earlier...

I hate becoming ill... It's like Nature's way of saying, "HAHAHAHAHAHA!" :p At least it's not so bad... Other half has to get a root canal done on Monday, so there's some justice in the world :D :D :D

I'd rather have the root canal than the sore throat funnily enough .......... :D

regarding the panados, they won't make you 'sweat' the crap out while you sleep like the disprin will ;)

Actually... Makes two of us. But shhh... Tell no one >.>

I handle physical pain a lot better than being ill. I turn into a big blanket-covered baby when I start getting bleeeeugh...

I don't seem to have a fever just yet... I'm really hoping today is the worst of it and that tomorrow it starts getting better...

*siiiiiigh*

Next thing I'm considering is gargling salt water... Assuming that doesn't make me barf in the process

Get some oroclor (sic) at the pharmacy for the pain and cough. The other throat remedies are just rubbish.

my experience has been that the gargling of salt water just hastens the onset of it ..... don't do it

Never tried it. Except once when my mom managed to convince me that it'll help when I was a kid. Needless to say I've been averse to it ever since :D

Oroclor? Never heard of that. May I ask what exactly that is? Lozenge? Throat spray?

Too many medi-keel/lozenges = diarrhea
Too much Vit C = constipation
Too much asprin/disprin/medlemon = stuffs with your stomach lining

Don't laugh at my remedy; squirt some Worcestershire sauce in your throat.
It really does work!

Take something with codeine in 8-20mg (depending on your constitution). It halts the coughing reflex so you don't make your throat any worse.

For your throat, have some tea or coffee with a dollop of honey.

I've been threatening to get sick this week- sore throat, cough, stuffy sinuses. I have been taking Sinumax during the day and Sinutab at night.

Laugh? Hardly. My stomach jumped at that :p I'll save that one for a really, really desperate day :D :D :D Thanks though :)

Silly thing with me is... Whenever I start getting a sore throat, I usually wake up in the night and I can feel it. Then I just cover my face with my blanket and re-breathe the air which is warm which, strangely enough, ends up with me waking up the next morning without a hint of my throat having been sore at all. What annoys me is that the night before last I was too lazy to find the blankey T.T

I really hope you don't get ill, Debbie. It's so exhausting.... Especially the restless nights.... :(

Tea actually sounds like a nice idea... Thank you :) Although for some twisted reason I'm having flashes of tea and Worcestershire sauce

hehe :D Might actually give that a shot. Although, I feel incredibly lethargic today... I just feel drained... Closest I'll get to the kitchen is to refill my mug... Haven't even eaten yet today... *siiiiiiigh* I HATE BEING ILL!

Gargeling coarse salt warm water helps a lot.
Drink lots and lots of water.
I read recently read on news24 that doctors did a study and found that honey worked better than anti-biotics, and that study proved it worked far better.

Hmmm... Thank you, Patty :) I'll probably give that a shot later. I need to get my hands on some honey first :x
