So, I tried migrating to a 4Mb all-inclusive MWEB package, but a few days later, they phoned to say my line (Rondebosch East) only supports a 384 Kb/s connection. I'm rather confused, seeing that a friend staying in the next area (on the same exchange as me apparently) gets just over 4Mb/s. Sigh... there goes any hope of watching YouTube videos without buffering... :(

Yeah, I phoned Telkom, they said my area doesn't support 384 Kb/s >_>

Kinda ironic that this is happening while 10Mb/s upgrades are being rolled out.

Rondebosch / Claremont has major issue at the moment.
Everyone getting high pings as the exchange is saturated so they are probably trying to limit the amount of new 4MB clients.

Just remember that your speed is determined by the cable distance to the exchange and not your geographic location.

Yeah, but I'm like less than 2 kilometres away from 2 exchanges. That too far?

lol, had the same issue. I phoned Telkom service and told the rep I know its only a 384 capable line but could I try 4mb. They told me all about the costs etc. router reset, now connecting at 7mb. :P

You SOB! LOL! Emailed MWEB yesterday to request that they up the line speed anyway to see if it syncs. Here's to it :)
