@NoADSL: I'm not sure what you mean with "by then", Phenom comes out the 19th and the HD3000 series this week. They could make a spider platform next monday couldn't they? (btw I don't care for either gfx brand, I buy whatever is best.)

Maybe they need their new AM3 chipsets before they launch this, and I wouldn't try to build any impressive gaming system on a 2.6GHZ chip, so they should wait for their 3Ghz parts.

Well it will be interesting. We will have to wait and see. I also wants the best but just never liked AMD much. Battled to much with their cr@p in the good ol days, bunked it and never returned! ATI I do not have qualms with but will see what AMD is going to make of it.

Still prefer Intel and Nvidia ATM. AMD will have to bring out a proven killer before I jump ship!
 
Ja, I don't think they will be able to. But this 3870 is looking better than I thought. :D

Phenom, I don't know. Luckily by the end of this week we should have final benchmarks on everything. If only AMD lightened up on the previewing, Intel's 45nm were benched a few weeks before launch already.
 
Been using Intel's QX9650 for a number of weeks now and goodness it is fast. They leap frogged themselves... I'm talking about minor speed gains either, their huge.
I used to run the previous champion QX6850 at 4GHz 24/7 before the summer decided to destroy my overclocks I thought that was fast. Then changed to 45nm Yorkfield and at 3.5GHz it devastated the QX6850. At 4GHz it was night and day... To match the QX6950 the QX6850 needs a good 500MHz head start and it better not be sub 4GHz.

Phenom my be faster than K8, but it'll need yet a number of revisions before it can compete. That is the 45nm Penryn CPUs are so much faster the Phenom may a well be an A64 still...

I have faith in AMD, but I will say its looking bad :/
 
Haven't got your hands on any of the new DAAMIT hardware though?

For some reason I'd like the HD3870 to beat the 8800GT, that would be something. ATI/AMD need one good product for the year at least. :p
