Spider
Very soon AMD will be delivering its new high-end gamer system, Spider, which is a combination of some seriously heavy duty graphics card with with its new desktop Pheonom quad-core processor.

Pat Moorhead, AMDPat Moorhead, AMD: "The power of the Spider platform is awesome. In fact it's marking a new era of gamng called 'gaming supercomputing'.

"Essentially that's going to deliver the cinematic quality of movies that were launched this year, rendered in realtime, right on your desktop.

"Just to put the power in perspective, we're providing teraflops of performance. 80 times the performance of the Sony PS3, 200 times the performance of IBM's Deep Blue computer.

"We're very excited about that."

It won't stop there; once they start developing it seems hard for them to stop.

Dirk Meyer, AMD: "We'll see eight processors from AMD in a single microprocessor socket, roughly seven or eight quarters from now."

And in the other corner Intel are squeezing the power.

Justin Rattner: "Early next year we'll go into production. So we now have an Intel compatible microprocessor, fully compatible, runs all the existing software, but instead of five watts of power, which is about as low as we had gone in the past, we're down at about half a watt. And we'll go lower."

he needs to talk **** to keep the shareholders happy.

if it happens, goody, more competition is great for us consumers
if it doesnt happen, he doesnt care, he will be at another job by then..

p.s. are amd becoming the new paper-launch champions?
p.p.s. he is hyping something that is two years down the line...awesome work, well done.
next he is going to be selling phantom game consoles.

Dont you just love a paper launches followed by delays after the other :)

From What I have seen! Pheonom quad-core is out performed by BLack Eddition X2's :confused:

This all sounds like "woof-woof" to me.. Everything looks good on paper but spill something on it and it likes like your cat had its go with the results!!

Amd really needs to step-up to get there market going again. I use to be a amd fanboy but if you don't keep'em coming with the good cpu's we look at alternatives. Intel Duo's and Quad's! I love me Duo, getting the Quad monster soon! XD

AMD = ATI
Intel = Nvidia

Nuff said.
sadly i Agree with u there am not a ATI fan.
I don't know if all this is true or not am only glad that amd is starting slowly but certainly to get back up.There is good chance that I would also go for intel since amd new boards is only coming out with ATI crossfire.

Ja, 3.4GHz vs I think it was the 2.6 Phenom. And the phenom still beat it in a few benchies. Nothing wrong with that, a lot of tests still depend on the GHz speeds and arent optimised for quad core.

been hearing that from voodoo 2 cards... very realistic gaming, cinematic etc etc....

amd is still one cpu generation behind since the core 2 duo they are yet to launch their next line and upwards.

lets see if this cpu are it looking back at the hammer ranges and their initial impact om the market till core 2 duo made its appearances :)

Mmm. Yes.

A quad-core processor in an age when a paltry few games can use two cores simultaneously.

By the time games start becoming that multi-threaded, that machine will be obsolete.

Well, that is coming by next week. :D

Then again Intel launched 45nm chips today, so AMD could arguably still be one generation behind.

I like killer yuppie AMD fanbois more! :D What Hype! By then the fifth generation Core2 Duo's would be out at 35nm :D

Waiting, for the plebs to attack! tick, tock, tick, tock ............
