Sorting out punkbuster issues with BF2

Go to www.punkbuster.com and download PBWEB.EXE. It's listed at the top of the page. Ignore the remainder of the downloads.

Dump the file into your Battlefield 2\pb folder.

Run the app - it can take awhile to complete. You now have the most recent version of punkbuster.

Load up BF2, connect to a server. If it kicks you out again - this is probably because you have a newer version of pb than the server. No problem.

Reconnect to the server, and as soon as you connect, drop down the console (press ~) and type 'pb_security 0'.

You should remain in game now.

EDIT: PBWEB.EXE is no longer available. It is now 'pbsetup.exe':

what does the pb_security 0 do? for sure it doesnt disable PB?
 
No, as far as I understand it, it just stops it complaining if the server version is older than your own version.

You can't disable pb anyway - well, not without deleting the pb folder -- and then you wouldn't be able to connect to ranked servers.
 
From what I can tell Punkbuster kicks two ways, either the server kicks and invalid user, or a user machine won't connect to an out of date / invalid server. If I'm not mistaken "pb_security 0" ignores the later.

Now will all trigger-happy animals just give me an opportunity to get into the game, I respawn and get obliterated, are you all pros or am I just useless?

This is getting to me.
PB is up to no good again, I upgraded to SF and all I get is "no packet flow" opned my firewall on port 27960 and all please help...
 
I've been looking everywhere to fix this, I've updated pb and tried pb_security 0 but still getting the error?
 
not running vista, tried deleting the pb folder and updating it again, didnt work though

Thank You THISGEEK, your directions helped me out. I put pb in the folder and installed it. I still had a problem (I couldn't connect) but having vista I tried running game as administrator and it worked..
 
how do I write ~ when I´m connected to the game?
Once I´ve cliced the join game button or what?
 
Thank you SO much, now it´s working. But the ~ button was the insert button in my game. Just one more question: do I have to write "pb_security 0" every time I connect to a server?:confused:
