Sound crackling and popping problem

Hi Guys

I have a irritating problem.

Every time I play games I always hear this crackling and pop noise through my speakers and its highly frustrating :/
Games that I play and when I notice this problem: Battlefield 3, Dishonored, NFS MW and Metro 2033.

My sound and graphics drivers are both up to date and running Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit.

1st with the basics,have you checked your cables and connectors?

Also what type of speaker system are you using?

Edit-Did you have this problem before upgrading to windows 8?

Having the same problem since installing Windows 8, sometimes even when playing music. Happens with the onboard soundcard and with a USB headset.

Is there also snapping?

Maybe of use maybe not but there used to be an old problem with HP laptops doing this & you needed to uncheck an option that enabled power management from the sound controller options.Might be a lead to look into
