When the autolocking mechanism in my car kicks in while driving off, I hear a sound, similar to a ‘groan’ emanating from the engine compartment, or could be from within the dashboard. However, when I activate the central locking via my transponder key, there is no sound.

This sound started about a month ago. Is there anything that is related to the central locking system that could be faulty? Vehicle is a 2017 Honda Ballade. Would an OBD scanner be able to diagnose the issue?

I can totally understand a sound from an engine compartment or dash that sounds like a relay, no idea why it would sound like a groan.

Only reason I can think of is some component being starved off power at the time the locking system is drawing power, maybe a fan or something that can mimic the groaning sound when slowing down.

Generally it's the aircon that does the groaning sound, no idea why that would be linked to the auto lock system.

A rat is trapped in the actuator mechanism, clearly. The groaning should stop within 5 days normally. The trapped rat must have accomplices. I suggest a car cat. Or some rattex air freshener.

Could be the abs pump doing its selftest

Thanks all, much appreciated.

To my surprise, the sound is gone :). Made a few trips today and no sound at all.😌
