Nice positive picture. Having certain International data for comparison would also have been good.

The howit.msn.com site at no 2 is misleading I think. It's the default site for IE. So what these stats really tell us is that there are 1 724 508 IE users :p
 
Sorry, but these numbers don't add up.

Two glaring problems:

1: ~48% of people access the internet over ADSL - with only ~800 000 DSL lines, it does not compute.
2: More people access the internet over DSL than mobile - this is just silly with less than a million DSL lines. On Vodacom alone around 17 times more unique entities access the internet on a monthly basis. The other MNOs add at least a similar number.

I was just about to comment on how the numbers didn't add up.
 
The DMMA stats have always been thumbsucking. Their stats released are there simply to promote member websites. Besides the inconsistencies in their numbers, in practice they do not even measure 5% of all South African websites, so many statistics are lost. Yet another article just to boost paying members of the DMMA and themselves.

This is not a reflection of South African Internet users, it is merely an estimated Internet usage of DMMA member websites alone.

I have internet on my phone, but I will almost always say I access internet over ADSL. People that browse on the phone will simply not browse long enough to get pop-up for these surveys, and if they do, won't do the survey because doing it on the phone is irritating and expensive.

Just because I update some apps over 3G doesn't mean I do anything else on it either. My 250 Megs runs out the first 10 days in the month and without updating most of my apps (Update apps via wifi at home) and I still don't browse on my phone. Maybe a little tapatalk here and there, syncing to the cloud etc, but I don't nearly go to any of these sites that will affect this survey.

So maybe the we access via 3G, LTE etc, but the landscape will be dominated by ADSL because they track page visits. You will make much more connections online over ADSL than 3G.

Businesses and Uni... maybe that's where the >1 person per line comes up?

More rubbish indeed. Nowhere is it made clear that you have to be a paid-up DMMA member to be ranked. The traffic on our websites would be in the top 30 but because we aren't a member, suddenly we don't actually exist. Nice one myBB.
 
And couldn't you put Sport24,Channel24 together with News24 for the top 30 sites as I normally access the 2 sites from the "main" News24 page?

Couldn't there be 800 000 lines but e.g.7 000 000 people accessing the internet via ADSL as an answer when they took the survey(i.e.ADSL access at work or friends)? Where we not given given multi options re: where/how we access the internet? Could then the answers not skew this?
