I don't know if this is a repost, sorry if it is... couldnt find anything in search...
Im on 2gig mweb adsl who now have free unlimited local bandwidth after the 2 gigs has been reached... but the international bandwidth is still accessible but it charges extra.. 20c per MB
My question is: is it possible to allow only south african ips to come through, kinda block internationally hosted sites so i dont accidentally get through to a international site... I have a list of South African IP RAnges if that might help?
Thanks

You're still on international, doesn't matter if you go to local sites, you're going to get charged at 20c per MB. On the Mweb stats page it should say "Local Only Access is currently in use", if not then you're using international.

Also check under "Out of package options", I suspect that you would have chosen "Pay Per MB [ 20c/MB ]" here. This should not be chosen and "Auto-Booster" must be disabled, only then will you go onto the local access only.

When following the "Local only bandwidth available now for a limited time" link:

"For the duration of the trial, you will be able to access local websites, services and content free of charge whenever you exceed your cap . Local-only bandwidth refers to websites and Internet services hosted in South Africa, i.e. data is transferred from South African-based sources."

It doesnt charge me when i go to a locally hosted site such as my banking services, i checked.. But then if i go to Yahoo.com for example it will.. There arent any options to select local only, and no where it says currently using local... Thats why i want to filter the IP's to only use South African hosted sites

That's strange... Something's wrong there. When you hit your cap (2GB in your case), you either go onto a pay-per-meg scheme, or a booster scheme. On pay-per-meg, your traffic, regardless of whether it's local or not, adds to your costs.

As qinglung said, in your MyADSL control panel, it would say "Local only access in use"

I remember someone else also had the problem that either one of the two options were selected, they had to phone MWeb to get them to disable it.

Otherwise, only thing I can think of is to set it to "Buy booster (Boost Per GB)" and just to make sure that "Auto-Booster" is disabled.

You are supposed to be able to choose "Booster" option, and then disable auto-boost. That way, Booster is still enabled, but for it to do anything, you have to explicitly say "boost me!" (maybe not exactly like that :p ).

Enable Booster. You might not be able to disable auto-boost because you have already been on pay-per-meg for this month, but it should clear up next month.

With regards to contacting Mweb to get things sorted: I have heard that too, but I have never had trouble switching back and forth between pay-per-meg and booster
