My one bub has a severe milk allergy, and since he was 6 months, we’ve been giving him soya yoghurt from Woolies (the pack of 6). Woolies apparently has quite a shortage as no stores have stock. This is going on a week or two now.

I’m nervous about coconut yoghurt as he has a nut allergy as well... so that’s a no go.

I can’t find soya yoghurt anywhere else either.

Anyone have any ideas where to get soya yoghurt please?

It isn't. The problem is (i) peanut is not a tree nut, it is a legume; (ii) coconut yoghurt is "made in a factory which uses peanuts".

So it’s a peanut allergy and not a (tree) nut allergy?

The issue isn’t coconut yogurt in general if it’s a factory contamination issue, it’s just the particular brand (and possibly product). There are likely alternative brands that are fine. Also check if rice or almond yogurt is available.

Also, just for safety, this isn’t all your child is being fed right? (It’s not clear from your post if your kid is actually older or if you are using this as a formula replacement).

Yeah sorry if that wasn't clear. Yeah he is an allergy to milk as well as peanuts. Will look at rice or almond milk (the latter sort of worries us as well).

Little dude is 13 months - he's eating tonnes of stuff. It's just that his mid morning snack that was yoghurt...

Appreciate the response!

Yeah. Was tested by an Allergist - I could see myself the insane reaction his skin had

just asking here cause i have no kids, but if a baby is allergic to milk, lactose etc - what happens when such a baby is breastfed? Can it handle that or does it mean no breastfeeding either?

He is allergic to cow’s milk protein, not the human variant. It’s not a lactose intolerance, but an actual irritability to that specific protein chain. Even having partially hydrolized formula didn’t help - it had to be fully hydrolized or soya. The former is about R280 for a tin of 400g...
