SpaceX to face one last test

Now all they need to do is find a way to save the main launch vehicle after the capsule is detached during an abort
Wonder how much this launch and loss of launcher cost ?

Would like to see how this will be done in a normal launch ( NO abort )

Not sure if possible as the aerodynamics are altered drasticly with the release of the capsule.
 
You can bet that the team are trying figure out if it's possible though...
For sure but this may lead to over engineering. They would need to have something that allows the rocket to maintain aerodynamics after seperation of the capsule, keeping in mind that is the number one priority and obviously in the case of launch failure. This would be additional weight, more redundancy, possible design changes etc etc, all to save a rocket that has already failed, probably has a low chance of a successful landing and certainly require repairs or correction. I think rather it be a write off.

Oh I totally agree, that the benefit might not outweight the cost and complication of doing it, but it would surprise me if they don't have a team trying to figure it out regardless.

Never thought I'd be this excited to see a Falcon 9 blow up mid air.
 
With NASA soon using SpaceX to launch to the ISS, I wonder if future astronauts would still be required to learn Russian for the Soyuz escape pods or if NASA will commission Dragons be docked for escape pods.

Soyuz will be the escape pods for a long while. Dragon is not designed it.

Am hoping for some extra footage, live wasn't so great and I'd like to see what happened to the booster. Looked like the safety officer blew it up before it broke apart.
 
Nice. Cool Demo. Interesting Boeing doesn't have to do a demo like this for their escape pod.

They didn't fail. Reaching the ISS and docking was never a requirement. Successfully launching Starliner to orbit, and then returning it safely was the requirement. And they did manage to do that. Scott Manley has some video's discussing this. And if you're into space tech, have a look at his Youtube channel.

Strange, all the reports indicate that the mission wasn't a success, even the one I linked. I'll google a bit later to check who is lying. Probably the flat earthers.

It is still unknown whether they will have to redo the test to achieve docking.

I have seen most of the MSM headlines include clickbait words like "failure".

Like Elon Must said, "Space is hard". This is still very exciting.

I don't recall any of the pre launch briefing on the livestream mention anything about a higher orbit & docking. Might be the case, just strange they said nothing about it then.
