SPDIF to Blue Ray player 5.1

So I finally got the Coaxial (RCA) to Optical Toslink Digital Audio Converter for my DSTV DSD 1110 to Samsung HT-D5100K but I don't know how to make it work :confused:

Does that convert stereo analogue to optical, or copper digital to optical?

Hmm ok. Does your dstv decoder definitely have a digital audio out port?
 
Ok and through that convertor to the optical in on your surround amp?
 
Those pics arent loading for me, but just remember that not much DSTV content is in surround sound.
Go to 103 or 104 & push the language button, make sure surround sound is selected

Yes it is, the thing is the blue ray isn't even picking it up which is what I need help with, I can't figure out why it isn't picking up.
 
Is the end of the cable that you are plugging into the bluray player lit up? *edit* don't look into it, just point it at something close by and see if there is a red glow.

When you press the Function/Source button on the Samsung HTB remote (top right) is it set to D.IN (digital in)?
 
It's supposed to work. I connected my hd pvr to my hts system, worked like a dream straight away.

Check your dstv settings, your audio output on there... make sure digital out is selected. digital might be lit up, but no data transfer on it
 
Just joined the forum and to comment on here. Im sitting with the same dilemma. I also have exactly the same setup as Nomnom. Is that the only way of getting the dstv via the bluray system? where can I get such a audio converter.

PS - I would also like my xbox360 (no optical out) to play the audio through the system. Is there a method to do it?

Yes it is, but nothing what so ever, the Blue ray doesn't pick up anything at all.

Not sure if there is anything to set to get sound (any sound, even 2ch) over the decoder's SPDIF port. Sorry also don't have a 1110.

If you're still not coming right, I would try the following;

1. Call up HDcabling and ask (a) whether the have ppl successfully using the converter with the DSD1110 and (b) any troubleshooting tips they can advise.

2. In the mean time try some of your own process of elimination by using (borrowing) an older DVD player (many have both coax & optical). Try simple optical to the Samsung HTB until you get audio playing, then switch to coax via converter without changing anything on the HTB. If the DVD player works, then the issue is with decoder, otherwise its the converter which will have to be sorted out with HDcabling.

Hi there Roman

Thanks for your help with this, I really have no idea who to ask for such things, I will do step 1 now. I did step 2 with an old dvd player that has one "digital out" port which I connected to the converter and then over the digital optic cable to the blue ray player and it worked. Here's a picture of what I did:

This one shows that the coaxial is connected to the DVD player into this so called "digital out" I'm guessing it's a SPDIF port?

That would seem to indicate everything is doing its job right, with the exception of the DSD1110. I assume you could get both 2ch PCM (with CD) and DD5.1 (with DVD) playing out Samsung HTB with the DVD player?.

Can only think the issue is something on decoder? I notice in one screenshot above you show the decoder Audio Output -> Stereo, what are the other settings available?
