so when i bought the one set of equipment, the supplier did installation / setup.
sounded good, but i always had a tingly sensation it could sound better, a lot better.
however, them being the "specialists" and me simply the customer / consumer, i assumed them to know better and not to be questioned.
this morning with nothing much better to do, i set about moving the speakers about.

oh my, i seemed to have found the "g-spot".
lost of moving about - moving them further apart and closer together, moving the closer and further from the wall behind them . . .it was endless.

so ppl, if you are feeling unsatisfied and you have an itch that needs scratching - relieve yourself

** not quite as simple as it sounds - some heavy lifting of furniture involved
1 coffee mug and its contents broken and strewn over the floor

Is there any kind of insulation behind them?

But at the end of the day, it's your ears and your sound preference

absolutely

i finally found the true "sweet spot".
with my move about and re-arranging, the speakers have kind of "vanished".

difficult to articulate, but there now is no discerning as to where the speakers are placed, or where the sound is coming from - its just there, and i'm in the middle of it - and it's blissful !

taking things further, i decided to fiddle about in the office / study.
again a simple 2 channel setup - amp + 2 speakers.

the "amp" here is a yamaha av receiver.
the yamaha has always been on, or pretty close to standard / default settings.

i'm one of those that seldom reads user manuals, but instead simply dives in.
but i decided to take a proper look and explore some of the deeper settings.

within the setup menu is a "speaker configuration" sub-menu.
within "speaker configuration" there were two further settings menus that were interesting and produced surprising results:
1) speaker distance
2) equalizer settings (uniform or for individual speakers).

speaker distance on the face of it, seemed like a glorified balance control.
however, fiddling about with it, it became clear it was something more than simple left & right balance control.
tweaking equalizer settings individually for each speaker was quite interesting.

fiddling and tweaking complete, i now have a completely different animal producing music in the study.

moral of the story here: dont be a grant, and simply ignore that 80 page user manual and just steam ahead - there may be a few nuggets to be discovered within it !!

Was a while back - but R400 a tile?

I think I paid R9,000ish back in 2019, installed
