Hey guys,

So i was robbed over the weekend. They ended up taking all 3 of my laptops, so I am left with a rather old one which i have loaded Ubuntu on.

Problem is, is that the speakers arent working, but the headphones are. Not sure if there is some sort of driver that needs to be installed seperately for the onboard speakers to work? I have only come across scrips that people are saying I should use, but how on earth to even get into a console is beyond me. I think i have used ubuntu for an hour or two in my life :)

Just need this machine for simple web browsing and youtube videos, so speakers are important. :D

Anyone come across this before? For what it's worth, it's a Dell inspiron 1525.

This will depend on what version of Ubuntu you are using, but as a first step it is worth going to the sound settings. You will normally be able to access this by clicking on the sound logo on the bar.

Go to the "Output" tab and makes sure that the output is directed to the speakers rather than headphones.

Also check with alsamixer that your output devices are not muted.
