So you saying they deserve what they getting? Thats not fair is it?

Live by the sword, you die by the sword???

But honestly no, its not fair that they should be subject to crime, nobody should be subjected to it. However, I do think that if you are engaging in criminal activities its only going to increase your chances of being victims of crime too.

OT: Everytime the media takes a look at crime focusing on a specific community, people from that community or that have ties to that community, will always display anger and feel that that community is being singled out. Like you see JK8 here, and everytime there thread about a white family that were victims of crime.

Truth be told, crime is out of hand across the board and nobody can claim to more exposed/isolated from crime.

Not at all what so ever.

I am saying that the report should at least be open minded and not just one sided. I can promise you now that this will be blamed on the People living in Atridgeville ;) Or the squatters outside of Erasmia. That is not the whole story.

No one deserves this and yes 100's of people in Laudium are loving law abiding people. But the root of the problem lies within Laudium itself and not outside

Probably blame the squatters so ya I think thats how it will start off, not sure how deep SA will digg, will be interesting to see.

Well there are areas with more crime and murder than others, so you say they should not be in the media? Thats ridiculous.

No, thats not what I wrote. Any communities exposure to crime taken in isolation makes it seem as though its more affected than others.

So I watched it:

And no surprizes tbh. They touched only slightly on the robberies and then all went back to that woman's Murder. They mentioned a total of 2 killing in the insert which is 2 more than there should be, however it's not a crime hole.

All this should learn us is the following:

1. Stop employing maids and gardeners (Do your own thing)
2. Police needs to be more pro-active instead of re-active
3. Communities should stand together and not alienate each other.
4. Make sure there is no un needed traffic in your area (if there is someone that got "lost" in your street. The community should confront him/her and make sure they don't get "lost" again.)

Then there was the other side of the coin.

Pls explain to me how you have a maid work for you daily for lets say 8 hours and pay them R 600/700 a month  And then not even pay them the full agreed amount. That in itself is asking for a hiding.

Hardly. A seasoned criminal (of any kind) is much less likely to get caught by their comrades' tricks.

Hi all - new here.

Interesting discussion - will admit I knew abt the broadcast but didn't watch it - grew up in the town and still live close by.

Let me first say that the crime is through the roof in the whole country. Laudium has its fair share - theft and armed robberies on an almost daily basis. It sounds very scary for residents because they hear about almost every incident through the local media.

Lately, the incidence of violent crime in the area has really got the residents in a panic. And the local police are being kept on their toes because the residents will not accept this anymore.

As for why this happens in that town - well we can all speculate. Yes you have the extremely wealthy who do not hide their status. But these crimes are also affecting the so-called middle or working class in that town.

Then again, you have workers who slog for a mere pittance for people who live like royalty - and any human being has a breaking point for the amount of injustice they can suffer. The unemployment rate is increasing along with the cost of living. And here, laid out before the hungry, is a buffet!

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that crime is justfied even by what i've said above. And the situation does not only speak to Laudium. But desperation and frustration can drive people to extremes.

One wonders though why the bloodlust? Theft of material things is one thing but is it necessary to hurt and kill?

So its a very awkward space we find ourselves in as South Africans - poverty is the biggest factor relating to crime and its hard to say that poverty will be under control in this country anytime soon.

This kind of crime is country-wide - not isolated.
