Spectrum: Use it or lose it

more realistic estimates are that the process may take between 12 and 18 months to complete

18 months (end of 2009...) is a long long time in the IT world. I wouldn't even bother.

too much rugga for those regulator monkeys... if they have gave a 'lease' of a spectrum trough issuing a license that lease is in force untill it comes to the end.

It is an issue of competence that this licence is unused. And this incompetence epitomises all governing bodies in SA today.

And you know how it goes monkey does what monkey sees.......

DblD out

iBurst needs all the extra wimax spectrum it can get. That 14Mhz only allows them to offer 1Mbs speed to consumers.

mmm 2010 ain't so far away...... but at the pace they moving.

Useless sentech deserve to lose the unused spectrum. Just another govt impeaded mishap, like exbaiedom and telaldiekom hentech will just stumble forth. Propped up by Taxpayers cash. The sad thing is hentech might have had the first 3g networks running with nowireless if they were on the ball. But no.. They dropped it, then ran over it, then slept on it, then lost it!

I believe they had to (quickly) apply for an extra 1MHz cos WiMAX 16e operates in 5MHz blocks (older 16d uses 3.5MHz blocks).
