Hey guys, just wondering. I heard somewhere that cops can't take a picture from you from behind anymore, it has to be done head-on... is that true?

Where did you hear that? From your grandma? :D From the back is actually better. More and more speed traps work that way. Keep in mind, is not the driver but the vehicle which is photographed. The owner must sort out who will pay (if not him). I wished there are more speed trap cameras, especially over the holidays. Also the fines should be increased all over the country by 100%. And if you are guilty of trying to fool the cameras or not pay the fine, you should be locked up and the keys thrown away :D I know is very harsh but this is the only way to keep animals safe from themself.

The traffic department has become a revenue generating company rather than a law enforcement agency. Traffic police are clueless when it comes to the law.

A buddy of mine got caught jumping a stop street that he thought really should have had a left yield. So he made a left yield sign out of correx and stuck it up under the stop sign with d/s tape.
Next morning he drove through the stop street (without stopping) and saw two traffic officers standing next to the sign having a discussion. He thought the where going to take it down. It stayed up for 3 months.
He was going to appeal his fine based on the sign, but I told him he was pushing it. :D

The problem here was that they caught my dad picking me up from the airport with my car (on the R300 towards Cape Town International) on stretch of road not clearly marked (it is 90, the caught him for going 90 in 60km/h zone). So I suspect the road works meant to have it as a 60km/h zone, but no sign said that. And the whole "how will they catch bikes" also made me "???" when I first heard this (and no, not from my gran...)

I'm thinking of appealing this though, how much "warning" do they need to give you in either direction when it comes to speed signs/cameras? I know at least that they have to do THAT. Because if the sign was down (according to my dad, he didn't see/it wasn't clearly marked that the speed changed) Then I'm going to just write an appeal letter.

6.1.2 An information sign with regard to speed prosecution by camera must be displayed as required by the Director of Public Prosecutions, if the offender is not immediately stopped and informed of the offence

As far as I can remember they are not allowed to trap within the first 300m of changing the speed limit. They had this topic up with the councel a long time ago where the speed changed from 100km/h down to 80km/h.......and they put the speed trap directly next to the 80km/h sign, therefore half the nation automatically got caught, so there was a big topic on trapping distances.

There's a camera on Barry Hetzog that loves taking pictures of cars bums ;).

Lets put it simply... if you aren't sure about something, rather not do it ;).
