Speed issues on 4mbit line? Please post which ISP and region.

Hey Yarik.

Any update from the Technician? What makes me cross is that they should be telling us there is a problem with the exchange and we are doing 1.2.3 to sort it out, instead of testing the line every two days that we phone them and then sending a techy again.

Hey heavyyou,

No, nothing. The last update was getting an SMS yesterday afternoon saying that the fault has been logged with the technical department. Somehowe I have a feeling it will take a while to sort out :(

Although I'm not in the same area as you guys, I have logged a fault (for the second time) a few days ago, all I have had from them so far was acknowledgement that they have received the fault report. Previously though, I had much quicker response, so I'm thinking they will be wiping this one under the carpet...

Something is up people, my latency is now sitting at 42ms and my download is the best i have ever had, and it is 19:07 at night(peak time)
Could it be?i hope so. what you guys sitting at?

Phoned telkom today to find out about the sync fault......logged 6 days ago....."Ello Sir, we have logged the fault but someone must still be assign to the problem...."

Complete standstill at HELLKOM!!!!

Im in Natal and getting shocking speeds with Telkom and Mweb. Thus I blame Telkom AGAIN as they maintain my line!!! :(

Finally got a call from a Telkom Tech: "There has been a fault on your exchange for the past few months. It has been reported to the exchange department, who have to sort it out. There is nothing I can do for you sir."
After questioning him some more: "Yes, the exchange has to be upgraded, I think the cards have to be replaced with new ones." So here my hope starts to disappear like mist before the sun.

A quote on a lighter note though: "No you can't measure download speed in kilobits. Kilobits is used to indicate the line speed, and kilobytes is used to measure your download speed." :wtf: I said goodbye at this point.

At that time last night my speed test was about 1.5 (MWEB uncapped) and later in the evening dropped to 0.59.

Then I think it became really bad, because I lined up a download for a PS3 demo (2,5 gigs) and when I woke up it was only about 33% complete.

Just got a PM from Maestr0 (also from Amberfield Glen, who started this thread). he says his speed is back to normal

still slowwwwwww

I am with @lantic, on their uncapped 4096 line. i can upload at over 400, but my download speed is 125 !!! How frikkin slow is that? their service people must be really pished off by now ! how much longer is this going to take? Telkom have flushed/reset my ports on the line. its in their court now. Sitting in Edgemead, cape town:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:

So here's the deal get Telkom to swap the port to another one in the exchange and you may just get back up to speed , they spent 3 weeks running around checking my line after I had told them over and over that it's not the line it's an exchange problem.

I then got lucky with the last guy they sent out to check my line , I gave him the exchange story .

Off he went to the exchange and changed onto another port and we back up and running like a dream :D
