Hey guys

Ok...so I am one of the guys having speed issues on a 4mbit line that is also syncing at 4mbit (checked with Telkom earlier on...also reset my connection for me).

I am on Openweb's gold network and more than 70% of the time I am getting really low speeds...in the region of 512 - 1mbit. This is on astraweb newsservers.

Http downloads are almost non existent for me. Even local is really slow (512).

So what I would like to find out from you, if you are also having speed issues, which area do you live in and which ISP? I'm in Gauteng - Centurion using Openweb's 4mbit "Gold" network.

Guys who do not have speed issues, please do not post telling me you don't have any problems. I'm just trying to investigate something with regards to the slow speeds.

Thank you

Aye, when I try download I get 50kbps max (this evening, the day was fine) and my latency is sitting at about 700 ..... now and then it all normalises but it doesn't last long. IS local account and an Imaginet (saix) one, same result. Something, somewhere is borked AGAIN.

Having terrible speed issues: Max download at 27KB/S
Somerset-West (Cape-Town)
MWEB 4MB Uncapped
Line Speed-3.2MB

My line is at @ 4096 / 512
ISP Telkom amd also Axxesslite
Exchange is Robertsham Johannesburg
And speed is as slow or even slower than my old 56k modem

And you think I can get it into those numb skulls at Telkom that we have a problem in the exchange/dslam port whatever , and my line is rock solid @ 4096

4 MB line in Centurion (Amberfield).
Terrible speeds. More like a 384-512 line.
With both Mweb uncapped and Axxess prepaid

4096 / 512 line here
telkom works perfect yet adsl axxess lite unshaped (IS) is slow and giving high latency in WoW 900 ms etc. also slow speed tests to international 0.7 mbits DL/0.3 UL + -

Also syncing at 4096/512 here in Durbanville with great Line Attenuation and Noise margin. Have both WA Titan Data 2 and Afrihost Prepaid. Speedtest to local server in Cape Town gives 0.43 Mbits/s down and up. Ping varies from 25ms (WA) to 70ms(Afrihost).

Also in Amberfield. Amberfield Glen to be exact. So yes...something is broken. Pisses me off that none of the ISPs can play open cards with us.
This uncapped is a lot of bull_****...if you ask me.

Amberfield Glen? Same here neighbour :) Glad I'm not the only one. News servers through Astraweb give me 100-140 kbs, but everything else is not existent. I've been trying to download a 563 MB demo on my PS3 since this morning. I think I have either 6 or 7 MB done after seven hours

I'm in Brackenfell, Cape Town. The above are two tests I did one after the other. Those DL speeds are actually good for a weekend. During the week the speeds increase to about 2.2 Mbits/s, but weekends are dismal. The speeds also seem to fluctuate a lot, from around 7 KBytes/s to about 80 KBytes/s. Latency is all over the place as well, as the above shows.

My line has never dropped due to sync issues:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 13.0 db 6.5 db
Noise Margin 30.2 db 27.0 db

Using the same WA account from another location, I get full speed and steady pings, so it is definitely not ISP related in my case, but Telkom related.

Spoke to someone else who lives in our complex and he is also struggling with a 4MB line and Telkom as ISP.

So we think there might be something wrong in the complex. Just called and logged a fault with Telkom

Axxess 4MB uncapped
Port Elizabeth, Central
Average Download speed 50kbs.

Line is unusable for online gaming, skype and video streaming.

Hey guys.

I am also in Amberfield Glen. 4mbps line, Mweb uncapped account and Afrihost prepaid. I got upgraded today to 4mbps, i was on 512kbps but it aas shocking. My 4mbps is better with the download speed, average of 0.400mbps(pathetic for 4mbps but better than 0.14mbps on my 512kbps) but my ping response is +- 700ms. I have been hassling with Telkom for about 5 weeks now, i have tried my Mweb account, Afrihost Pre-Paid and a telkom account but all yeilding the same results. I also Logged a call with Telkom AGAIN tonight. i have been told by the call centre agents that out heeulwoord exchange is overloaded. maybe we need to give them all our reference number or send them a mail with all our referance numbers attached to show them that all "IS NOT FINE THERE SIDE".

Hey man,

Wow, lots of us Amberfield Glen residents on this forum. I logged a fault yesterday and received a call from a technician. He said that he already received 5 complaints from Amberfield Glen. The problem is the exchange. So he forwarded my complaint to the relevant department and said he will raise it at a meeting tomorrow.

Hey Yarik. Lets hope something happens now hey. i am suffering bru.

Axxess Uncapped: Max like also 40kb per second on 4Mbps line. When are things gonna improve :( - this is HTTP downloading. Ubuntu 32bit ISO.

Isane stuff.

On gamco speedtest, if I can even get the speedtest to work, I get anywhere between 10kbps and 65kbps (upload either fails or goes as high as 160kbps). Been unstable since Sunday, can't even access Web Africa's website without constant refreshes before it MAYBE loads like half the page.

I stay in Randburg, Kensington B. 4mbps line, Web Africa as ISP. Line is syncing at full speed.

Yeah, hope so too. Speed test was 0.38 for download this morning before I left for work.

Erm, that is less than 10% of what I'm supposed to be getting.

am also having this problem, found out that my telkom line was not fast enough to handle the mweb internet.

anyone know the pricing on a 4000kbps line from telkom?
