So, while the cable was busted, my local speeds and pings were completely normal right, now the cable is fixed and my line is going whacky. I have dial-up speeds and my ping is jumping from 300-800. That's is on my local only IS account and my SAIX unshaped account :confused: Is anyone else experiencing this?

Have you tried turning off your router for 60 seconds and turning it on again. Sorry for sounding like the IT crowd: "Have you tried turning it on and off again." :D
 
Yep, did that already, no joy whatsoever ......


Edit* - a port refresh has done the trick (for now) :D

Just to clarify this for someone who might have the same problem. Mephisto_Helix: Please clarify that this is correct.

No, phone Telkom and ask them to refresh the port on the exchange ..... a reset is a different thing altogether ;)
 
Ok, so obviously the port refresh was a fluke .... problems are back :wtf: Some odd tracerts and pingtests and they vary in the space of 10 minutes -

It just looks all out of whack to me, so the question is, is it the line or just general internet issues, possibly related to all the crud we've had lately?
 
I have the same problem, 1Mbps account from MWeb, new 2Mbps line form Telkom and speeds are ridiculously low. I keep refreshing ports (@telkom) and re-auth'ing the account (@MWeb) but changes in speed don't last for more than 2 days. Dafuq??? Please help, any suggestions???

Hi Keegan, I have done the speedtest, resulting in a 72ms ping, but don't really know how to interpret the other results.

jitter is 57ms
line quality is only C (with MOS 4.25)
MWeb is rated 2.6/5.

Any suggestions?

Hi
I suggested the pingtest for Mephisto_Helix
But basically if your jitter is that high its due to your line not being in good order.
You need telkom to get your line checked.
