Hi Guys

Please comment on the following :

I have a 4mb/s Telkom ADSL Line and a Uncapped Axxess 4mb/s account.
On speedtest.net the results are : ping 61ms, download speed 0.15Mb/s, Upload 0.35Mb/s

This seems really SLOW. Still after effects from the seacom outage or what?

That does seem really slow.

Are you sure your line sync's at 4mb/s?
Can you log in your router and confirm what your download speed is rated at?

no i don't :(

what would be the expected results on speedtest.net with a setup like mine?

I think it may be an IS and/or Seacom issue, my Afrihost account has been running really slow this morning so I switched over to my WA account and its flying...

* Update

Used a different account and speeds were fast.
Suggested:
Yes it is definitely Axxess.

Why not give them a call?

Or just an email.

According to http://www.axxess.co.za/networkstatus.php, there isn't any network problems.
So it should be something with the account.

Perhaps, try your Axxess account again. Just one last time.

ok gave it one last test and this is what i get

hehe, it's like back in the day with dial-up.

Maybe i should give them a call.

I haven't been abusing the line. I got a warning about some illegal software someone downloaded on our account but it seems to have been spyware but i got that sorted out.

I emailed them.

I am not downloading heavily at all - it seems Afrihost is having the same problem as in the above post?

I hope Axxess doesn't reply with something like they are still testing Seacom or this is still Seacom's fault.

I will post back IF i get a reply from Axxess.

What 4mb uncapped account are you on? You aren't perhaps on a uncapped express account are you? If you are then you will only get 4mb after hours (8pm-8am). Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but those speed tests you did were during peak hours and they look exactly like what you would get on an Axxess express+ 384kbps account during peak hours if you had reached your rolling threshhold.

Hi, i did the speed test again at 06:30 am and got much better resutls.
I am on a axxess uncapped express account. I am not sure about the threshold thing because i wasn't informed, which i feel i should be, and also we dont download heavily. We reach average about 70-80gigs a month.
I also just checked my usage on Axxess and according to their figures it is only 5gigs for july??
I email them yesterday about the speed issue and stil no response.

Here is the speedtest results :

I do understand that policy. But it still doesn't explain why my line speed is so slow.
I haven't been downloading heavily and I haven't been informed that i am being shaped/throttled/suffocated or worked through the ears.

Just as an example (because i didn't do a speed test before) :
Before seacom went down a youtube video buffered faster that the it played during peak hours. Now it doesn't. So is Seacom really fixed?

Still no response from Axxess...

When you run your next test rather choose the Cape Town server, and not the Newlands server. The Newlands speedtest server is useless and never gives you your correct speed on your line. I get 0.5 down on that server, and 3.4 down on the CPT or JHB servers...
