I was caught doing 15 Kmph over the speed limit .
What is the expected fine amount ?
I got a ticket for R600 , that sounds a bit excessive ?
95 in 80 Zone .
It is out of town so i might have missed a speed limit drop from 100 down to 80

Who calculates the rates ?
Surely there has to be some standard guide on Rates ?

I was fined R200 for a previous 15kmph-over offence closer to home , why now such a big jump in fine amount ?

R600 does sound like a lot.

Usually it's (for an 80 zone), dependant on the municipality,
91+, R100-R200
96+, R200-R300

Yeah I also thought it was a bit excessive , have sent an email to query .
* So municipality creates the rates ? Is there no standard guide on the rates ?

The rates in JHB/PTA are:
11-15kM/h over R250/R125 if you pay within 30 days.
16-20kM/h over R500/R250 if you pay within 30 days.
21-25kM/h over R750/R375 if you pay within 30 days.
26-30kM/h over R1000/R500 if you pay within 30 days.
31-35kM/h over R1250/R625 if you pay within 30 days.
36-40kM/h over R1500/R750 if you pay within 30 days.
Over 40kM/h you have to go to court.

That`s a bit presumptuous ...

Not that i need to explain myself to you but just for interest sake ...

The previous fine was about a year ago ... this one was driving from CT to Pretoria and back so it was a long drive where i probably didnt see the traffic sign with the lowering of speed limit.
If i was such a repeat offender , i would have had more than one speeding ticket during that trip.

This fine was when i drove through Kimberley . Emthanjeni traffic dept. issued the fine .
Different traffic department but i still find it hard to believe a 3x difference in amount , even when dealing with different departments.
Carte Blanche ? :whistling:

Couldn't find their tarrifs but I did find this in their 09/10 annual report:
Speed Digi-Cams 43754 R 16,755,000.00
Speed N1 Hanover Camera 7820 R 1,746,950.00

Seems people like speeding there.

Edit:
Just found this in the CoJ 10/11 annual report
Fines R315,660,000
:wtf:

and Tshwane
R7,990,659

Seems the metro here are really useless

I got 250 for doing 93 in an 80 zone. Once you go 15 kmph + more, then the fine amount jumps big time.

Bump.

Is there a site that provides a breakdown per metro? I'm specifically looking for the Jhb rates, and more specifically when the speed limit is 80 km/h...

Remember the fines have like double in the last year.
Like in 2010 if you went 80km in a 60km zone the fine was R200, now it's R400 etc

Remember that JHB is on the Aarto system, so you get that 50% discount if you settle within 30 days.

I don't think it's rolled out nationally yet, so that might explain for the 'jump'.

Yeah but where's the actual rates? There doesn't seem to be any source for this info anymore...

A grace of 10km/h of the posted speed limit may be applied by law enforcement before they would consider issuing a ticket for speeding. But bear in mind that this is merely a guideline and does not always have to be applied. It is important to remember that, regardless of any leeway given to motorists, once a prosecution for speeding is initiated the charge will start from 1km/h over the posted speed limit with the appropriate fine.
