Just checked on payfine.co.za - a fine of mine is marked - "Admission of guilt not allowed. Require court Appearance"

Any ideas on how much k@k i'm in :) ?

Also ...

I've got about R14k of outstanding fine...

I need to renew my car license in Dec... Will they force me to pay for the fines before renewing my license?

If I do need to sort the account out before I get my license what are the chances that the public prosecutor will discount them for me?

And also if the fines are outstanding from December what are the chances there may be an outstanding warrant and that they will might want to arrest me?

To be frank, you are probably in deep k@k...

If you exceed the speed limit by 30km/h on an urban road or 40km/h on a highway then there is no admission of guilt fine to pay, you will appear in Court. The Magistrate is obliged to suspend your license unless there is good reason not to. You may be charged with reckless or negligent driving and could end up with a criminal record.

Edit: You can not be arrested for outstanding speeding fines. A warrant for your arrest will only be issued if you are summoned to Court and fail to appear. I also highly doubt that anybody would be willing to reduce the fines, given the quantity and total amount...

The fines won't affect the license renewal. At least not yet, I think they'll only start that with AARTO.
But whether or not you show up in court they're going to nail you at a roads block in the middle of the night sooner or later. Best have 20K available on you when they do catch up to you.

You're better off presenting yourself to a prosecutor before the court date and making a payment arrangement. At court they tend to demand a certain portion of the money right away.

I haven't collected any of the AARTO notices at my post office - I just ignore them... It does state that it is assumed you have received the notice within 10days of the original notice... So I'm sure I must have warrant out... To be quite honest the cops don't seem to be checking outstanding fines at the moment. When they stop me they just ask to see my driver's.

Is there a statute of limitations for speeding fines?

But the summons has to be served on your domicilium address by the sheriff, so it is unlikely that a warrant has been issued and served yet, as I am sure you would know about it. Just to reiterate, you cannot be arrested for outstanding fines, only if you ignored a Court summons. If the sheriff could not serve it on you personally, he would have at least attached it to your outer gate for you to see.

So you clearly know that there's a camera yet you keep going fast in the same spot.

Nope - now you're assuming... I haven't indicated when the fines were taken and after the fact, once I found I've gotten them, whether or not I've gotten any more...

Once I checked my payfine.co.za account and saw them I immediatelly slowed down on those roads and haven't received any further fines, but unfortunately it's a bit too late... My fines are from Dec - March

Ok I got you... but surely leaving on your gate is not proof that you have received it... somebody walking by could remove the notice, it could rain and it could become damaged etc... I'm not home most of the time so not sure how they would attempt serving this? Perhaps there are so many "big" offenders they don't have time at this point to go after me?

lol I asked, you said they were in the same spot, now you say I assume....

but besides that it's always better to drive the speed limit or if you must go over rather stick to only a few KMs over as it reduces the chances of a fine or at least not high value fines.

Edit: nevermind see you already posted the reply. But gosh that was pretty stupid. What kind of a car do you drive?

Yes unfortunately it was new car syndrome... had an Uno 1100 before and upgraded to a Corsa CDTI... We live and learn...

Do these stay on your record forever?

But corsa's are slow, How did you get a speeding fine, was this all in 60 zones? :P

wow R14000 would have bought a tomtom GPS with 10 years of traffic camera warnings.

Yeah, its not a perfect system, but its what we have. Unfortunately for you, the Sheriff's Return of Service is absolute proof that the Summons was served on your address. If Sheriff's were required to serve personally on everybody in all situations, then far fewer people would be brught to book.

Look, they may not have issued a Summons, and they may never do so. OR, Summons has been issued and served and you have a Court Date pending that you don't know about yet. Its up to you how you deal with this from here.

Ok - I get you - it is what it is!

If you were in my situation how would you go about sorting it out? Puting your head in the sand and hoping it will go away (they seem to be very incapable so theirs a high chance of nothing hapening?) - or pro actively going to the public prosecutor ( if that is the right person) and negotiating etc?
