Speeding Fines

Thats for you to decide :)

My first instinct is to put it on the back burner and assume they don't have the time to do anything about... But that's a decision made with very little knowledge on the traffic departments intentions and capabilities... So it is for me to decide but I need all the data first to make an informed decision.

I don't want to run to them with my tail between my legs out of mere fear... I need to make the best possible decision for the best possible outcome taking all things into consideration... I may be naive in thinking I can actually get all the info to make the informed decision. Will just have to wait and see...

Just let it be and do nothing until you get something from the sheriff. Maybe there was an error on payfine. Sometimes these fines get written off as well. I usually pay small fines when I get a discount. R14k is alot though.

Let's try that... although it has been said that ignorance is no excuse in they eyes of the law. Let's play some Russian roulette and see if I'm lucky... (Makes me think of the movie '13' - watch it!)

This little bit caught my attention:
We have recently discovered that payCity, another Syntell website, "from the guys who brought you payfine.co.za" is now processing payments for a wide range of municipalities, but more specifically for the JMPD and TMPD who are the only two municipalities currently involved in the AARTO process.
Previously only JMPD's fines could be paid online, but now it seems that the RTMC has awarded Syntell with this privilege without so much as bothering to go to tender.
The "official AARTO Website" still says that the facility will be available soon, and refers the JMPD's prey to payfine.co.za which now seems to be all but completely defunct since it no longer carries photographs - especially for newer camera infringement notices.

Bolded by me.

Payfine has always seemed dodgy. I refuse to use it.
On top of that, fines not delivered via Registered Mail are illegal.
I vote you go to renew your license a little earlier than you would have normally. If they refuse to do it then deal with the fines, leaving yourself enough time to sort them out and still renew before expiry. I would wait until a summons arrives in the mail. I don't believe the existence of a fine on that dodgy site is a valid reason to pay it. I wait for the registered mail to arrive or I won't pay it.
I believe if nothing has happened within 3 years from the date of issue of the fine, they cannot come after you after that. I stand to be corrected.

Ok... 6 months down 30 to go :D

I have received fines in the mail (to my dad's house where I don't live) I've instructed him to tell whom ever comes for anything that doesn't know me ;) I've also received notices that registered mail is at the post office for me to fetch and it makes mention of AARTO on it - which I've ignored flat... For the record I haven't received anything - which may help me a little.

Like the idea of going a little early to pay for my license good litmus test to see the state of things on their system...

Sorted .. plan of action locked and loaded!

I'll keep some cash in my car in case someone wants to arrest me...

A civil claim prescribes after three years, not a criminal matter

He is saying you can't wait it out and hope it blows off. In Gauteng it's a matter of time before they catch up to you.

Kewl ... I'll have to sort it out sometime... What's my first port of call? Public prosecutor?

Yup, got to a prosecutor and plead your case. Don't let the metro pigs arrest you, the only way out of that is pay up or spend a weekend in jail waiting a court date.

By don't let them, I mean avoid them where you can. I'm not advising you resist in case they pounce on you around an unsuspecting corner, you'll lose teeth.

kalevra, I hope you're not one of those people who is always complaining about crime in this country, considering you're a criminal yourself... Just saying...

Nice one man!

Love this...

"Lastly, go to court and say: “I wasn’t the driver of the car at the time and cannot vouch for who was driving the car.” — IF the traffic photo does not show your face, there’s no proof that it was you who was driving the car. Fines are issued to drivers, not cars. You can say the car was in for service, or borrowed it to someone. That gets the fine dropped pretty quick; because it’s a waste of court resources to pursue it any more. So for photos from behind or where you can’t see the driver – they have to prove who the driver of the car was. Not quite possible. That’s why the fine has to be issued by a human on the spot."

Unfortunately for me how do I prove that I wasn't driving when the offences stretch from Nov - Feb... Can I tell them it was in for service every time? :P

If you claim not to have been driving the car, they will want to know who was driving the car or where it was on those days, so they can pursue the correct person.

Technically you are correct but there is a difference between someone speeding and knowing and someone raping/murdering/stealing etc... I may speed but I do so when conditions are suitable... How is it that a taxi that has a spanner for steering wheel and pieces of cardboard for break pads and a is about to fall apart can drive on the road at 60km/h but I can't drive 90km/h in the same area with ABS and vehicle that is services by the dealers and in perfect road worthy condition... But this is a pointless argument - is it not apparent that the cops are only concerned about making an income from speeding fines and it has nothing to do with road safety - far more deaths are caused from drunk drivers yet a lot more of my tax paying money goes into setting up ways to fine me for speeding - they could save many more lives pursuing the drunk drivers more rigorously.

So let's not got the whole criminal route since most of us know that has very little to do with it! FACT: A taxi going 100km/h on the highway is the equivalent of me going 160km/h on the highway - I don't do that because it's dangerous - but how many times do you hear of head collision occurring where a taxi was involved - it feels to me like the majority - I cannot confirm this. BTW I say fact but it just is my opinion...

With AARTO they deny you access to your licence disk renewal until all outstanding levies/monies/fines is paid in full.
