whats up with the line speeds the past few days i have a 192kb line and b4 i used to connect at like +- 250kbps ( i think ) id download at 30bk and upload at 20kb but now im connecting at 170kbps and downloading at 20kb and the most ive seen it upload at is 3kb what i want to no is will this be what i have to live with or will the speed return to normal

my speeds are also up the pipe at the moment, its most prob telkoms end of the month trick?
isp:webafrica
speed:1-2k/s

Telkom have started giving us what we pay for. you don't pay for a ~250k line, you pay for 192k.

now how about you upgrade to 384k for a little extra per month..? :D

i dont think that they should have gotten ppl used to a certain standard ann then take it away wtf up with that is rather have IsDN with the speed im getin now.

erm, they arent giving me 192k, they are giving 160 or 170k IF im lucky, the sad thing is that we know we can get to 192k speeds, but they would rather not give it to us :/

I used to consistently get 50kB/s downloading from IS newsgroups (on my 384kb ADSL) -- since April I'm constantly getting about 38kB/s only. On my line I should be getting closer to the 50kB mark (384kb/8=48kB) - so who is screwing me - is it IS or Telkom? What speeds are other people getting from IS newgroups on the 384kb ADSL?

same, 192k line 20k/s instead of the usual 33k/s :(

some wierd stuff is going on with my line last nigth i was DLing at like 12 but uploading at 28kb some of the time

Isnt that pretty reasonable for a 192kb line? You signed up knowing you were going to get 192kb, when I was thinking about ADSL and getting 192kb I was expecting 18-20kb speeds. I would have been extremely happy to get over 30kb.

Yes, they shouldnt not have done that, but how would you rather have ISND than getting the speeds you signed up for? Why did you get 192kb ADSL if you would rather have ISDN than 170kb which is acceptable for 192kb?

Seriously, this isnt anythign to complain about, it may suck for you but for once its not really Telkoms fault or a bad service from them.

erm it is bad service, i am paying for 192k, but i dont get over 170k, i expect 24kB/s NOT 18 or 20kB/s :/

If this is the case then uploads should be limited to 64kbps = 8kBps right? Since the 192 package states that it's 64k up. So why are uploads going at at the same speed as downloads? The point is that if they were able to provide 256k speeds all this time then why suddenly start providing 160k speeds when they can clearly gaurantee 192k speeds. Why is everyone suddenly limited to 20kB/s downloads?

I don't believe this "get what you pay for" and "best effort" crap. Best effort means they'll be able to provide 192k speeds which may vary from individual to individual i.e. some people may get less but some should get 192k. Therefore the speeds should vary from person to person. However here we are where everybody is capped at 160k. Coincidence? I don't know about you guys but in my book that's neither "best effort" nor "get what you pay for". This is clearly deliberate. Is that what people call best effort where everybody is capped at 20kB/s? No my friends, thats deliberate.

That is true, if everyone is being "capped" at 20kb, then it is deliberate and not just a correction of their previous speeds to give people the speed they signed up for. I'm shure Telkom is at fault for this, seeing as they obviously can provide higher speeds...

But saying that 170kb is a bad service is really pretty stupid. That happens all over the world, no ADSL service runs exactly at its peak. They all run a bit slower due to overheads etc. in donwloading files. Its just how it works, you cant really expect 24kb.
Youve got alot of things to complain about before you call getting 170kb from a 192kb connection a bad service from Telkom.

Yeah I agree with your too. But why give us fast speeds initially and then just downgrade us. Really disappointing. I used to get around 40kb/s initially now it's about 20.7 kb/s. So sad *sighs*

My adsl connection has been acting odd since a month or two ago, websites i use to download at high speeds now crawl at 5-10kB/s and only occationally go to line speed. Also I use to be connected at avg 30kB/s now this month its like 19-21kB/s for local and slight increase in international ping. :/

e.g. I downloaded 50MB on monday it went at 19.5+kB/s.. then later that day and today various times downloaded a 60MB file took 5hrs.. at 3.5kB/s :( same server, same time of day etc
