speedtest???

Expect speeds to be around 3-3.5Mbps (+-400Kb/s) down and 300-500Kbps (40-60Kb/s) up.

ping to 196.38.180.37 with 4mb line IS backbone. ..::44ms::..
ping to saix.net with 4mb line IS bacbone ..::56ms::..

These test are not always correct. Most of the times you might get much more or much less depends really!

My speed tests run fine BUT international downloads sucks. If have tested downloads directly from web sites (download, com, winamp, com, microsoft.com, apple.com) - all are very slow. Same with torrents. To make it worse it seems that ppl are not seeding as well. Dunno what the problem is but it seems to be related to the international link.

so you get two backbones? saix and IS? saix uses satelite and saix uses fibre?

My tests was done by IS backbone Semi unshaped Fiber!

ALL SAIX bandwidth is Fiber based
IS ips with 196.210 and others it usually fiber based
IS ips with 196.209 usually satelite based

Not always though.

My IS Connection = 0.55 Mbps
My SAIX Connection = 0.67 Mbps

This is supposed to be a 4 mbps line.

OMG... why such terrible speeds....?

It's like this at the office in Joburg and at home. I dunno why it is so k@k... but it is not my line. I've called Telkom but they say it is the ISP's fault.

This was after I finally got my line working again at the office after three months of synch issues.

i hope my speed is better when i get my router tomorrow, i bought me one rather than waiting until forever. I phoned telkom this morning asking them how fa the exchange is from my house and the lady said she's not allowed to say- she said i only need to know my line syncs at 4mbps. after asking around i did found out its just a few blocks away. what is the benefits of having it closer as it seems that, that's important?

I've had mine for nearly four years. When it actually runs at 4 mbps it is great. It used to run nicely all the time... but this year... pretty much sucks all the time now.

maybe the ***** copper wires? i just know the infrastructure sucks. We are still gonna use the copper wires running from houses to telkom boxes, where from there they are gonna use fiber. i just want it for gaming though so all i really care about is decent gaming performance.... and some downloads...
