Anyone played the game?

I started on Saturday - but am frustrated with various bugs - and other game related issues. I really battled to get some display problems sorted - and the game/missions really takes forever to load. I have completed GRAW and R6 Vegas in the last month without problems - but SC feels like an unfinished product in comparison. I feel like a beta tester - even after loading the latest patch and drivers.

I cannot understand why the three games (GR, R6 and SC) differs so much in so many ways - considering that all comes from ubisoft, uses the same engine (unreal), and builds on the same genre and core branding. It seems as if three seperate teams in three seperate locations are working on the Tom Clancy series - and the one team doesn't know and talk to the other (and the teams are not learning form each other). It need not be like this.

BTW ... I would love to one day get one game from ubisoft containg missions and gameplay from all three games (GR + R6 + SC) - with one storyline and one goal. Imagine controlling a GR and R6 team in one game - and do a few stealth missions as Fisher inbetween. But money talks so it is better for ubisoft to sell three separate games.

I get 3 loading screens with this game while trying to load 1 single player mission, it is indeed a freak long time to wait :(

I cant complain I immensely enjoyed the game....as mentioned...too short, but i had no probs with display or loading times ;)

SCDA is a crock.
That's why its not acclaimed as much as SCCT before it.
Just to clarify GRAW does not use same engine as R6 and SCDA. CSDA uses UnrealEngine2, R6 uses UnrealEngine3 and GRAW I'm not sure about but its not UE3.

SCDA looks and plays the way it does because its a console port. (XBox360) Ubisoft really botched this up major, so its best to wait for the upcoming SC5.
Maybe such actions are why Crytek left them... I know for one FarCry in the consoles isn't so great, and now \crytek will not be making console versions of Crysis...

After some more frustrations last night I must say I'm disappointed with this one. My PC specs had no problems dealing with GRAW and R6 Vegas - but SCDA is doing strange things. I also found (the hard way) last night that it wouldn't load my saved games - giving me an error message about some storage device that is missing (?!). I've never been this frustrated with a ubisoft game. The game feels too much like it was released in a hurry without thorough testing on PC. I enjoyed R6 Vegas so much ... and now this anti climax. The story line is great - the artwork also - but technically something is amiss.

So - GR, R6 and SC - how would you rank them in order?

If I loved R6 but found GR to be mediocre - would I enjoy SC?

Not an easy question to answer. You will like SC if you liked the previous installments - but it will not be in the same league as R6 Vegas IMO. R6 Vegas was great and I can't wait for the expansion pack. SCDA requires some more patching - but maybe the frustrations are just my own and not a general issue.

It's such a mixed bag ... I didn't like R6 Lockdown but loved Raven Shield and Vegas. I enjoyed all the previous SC's - but Double Agent frustrates me. I enjoyed all the GR editions - but maybe not as much as R6 and the previosu SC's.

@Trafeye - thanks for the great synopsis. I'll check out a few more reviews before I proceed. :)

On PC this game sucks. I've really tried to give it a chance but I haven't been so frustrated with a PC game for many years. I'm so fed-up waiting for games to load that I've lost interest. This game is so poor compared to R6 Vegas that I cannot believe it comes from the same company. Some advice ... never ever play R6 Vegas before this one - it's a big step down.

I'm sure it's better on console - but on PC it's not nearly worth the R300 I paid for it.

Yep sorry you had to find out the hard way. This game really is horse dung on the PC. Well then again that's what happens when you get a really bad port. Its as if Ubisoft decided to give PC gamers the finger and thought it funny to give us a game that hardly works, that's still got a console structure in the way it plays and works. It's really sad what Ubisfot have done to the game that carried Sam Fisher. After Chaos Theory this game doesn't doesn't deserve the Splinter Cell name. Absolute rubbish from Ubisoft.

I'm definitely not buying the next one until it proves itself to be different from this...

SC-DA in my opinion (i started playing it fully patched).. was awesome, great engine, great graphics, great stability, very polished, completed it easily on medium.... and great fun....
cant really compare it to R6, but R6 is great fun in a different way, although very bad coding for PC version. but with everything tweaked, havta say, PC version was awesome... couldnt fault much at all (7900GT)

PS. no game is worth paying R600 for, R299, definately

The player reviews of this game on the net is also a mixed bag - as it shows on this thread also. Some love it - some hate it. For me, playing the game is this up-and-down experience - when things work it's great - but when things go wrong it really goes wrong. As some have mentioned the problems are the result of a poor port. I agree with this. The game has strong console tendencies that doesn't work well on PC - for me. I've been with the Clancy games all the way - and its been a great experience - but this game will make me think twice about paying R 300+ next time.

I've written off Sam Fischer. He'll have to prove himself superior to Snake on his next round or else he wont' get my money...

Sam vs Snake ... a new game? :)

Shame, it's not Sam's fault that his creator is messing up the X-Box to PC cloning.

there is nothing wrong with the PC version, if your rig is fast enough... its stable, and super sharp, looks very good

That's the problem. :(

On my PC at the moment I can't play it. Right after I change the grafix settings to a lower level that my PC can handle it changes it back to maximum once I start a game.

Good thing I'm upgrading to Core 2 Duo and 8800GTX. :D

it is a nex gen game... using UNREAL 2 and 3 engine features. with 8800GTX, will run amazing, im running everything on, nex gen settings, all high at 1280X1024... looks extremely clear and sharp.. and the atmospheric levels has a brilliant haze
