Hi, I have an MWEB 5Gb package which also allows 10Gb local. The local only comes into force once you have reached your cap. Is there some way of redirecting the local sites so that you can use local without being capped?

No you can't. If you want a similar setup, then cancel your MWeb account, and switch to SAINET. They offer you split billing for local and international. International is charged at R29.50 per GB, and local is charged at about R10 per GB. Very good deal in my opinion.

Cancel MWeb. They're probably screwing you nicely with the pricing.

Was just looking at Sainet now and for R142.50 they give you 5Gigs International and 15Gigs local, compared to Afrihost which is R145 for just 5Gigs, no local.
Only difference Afrihost's topups are cheaper, but if you only use 5Gigs international and dont topup often and will be using the 15Gigs local, Sainet is a pretty good deal I think.
Then if they do do that spilt of international and local even better.
As far as I understand, from ToxicWazte's post, with Sainet, you don't have to use up your 5gigs to get to your 15gigs local as was the OP query?

Going to consider going with them.

No you've got it wrong. For R142.50, you can get 5GB international only, or 15GB local only, or a combination of both.

From their news section, they give an example:

THREE GIGS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE

From 1 March 2010 we will split the byte and give you more Cap for the same price.
Register and Subscribe today and see for yourself.

Local bytes billed at one third of the cost on an International byte. Users are able to monitor and see their split usage by using the Sainet SelfCare zone.

Example: If a user use 50% local/International he will effectively use 2Gb of CAP and be billed for 1Gb. Should a user use International bandwidth a full gig will be available. Local only browsers can fully utilise 3 Gigs of local only bandwidth on a One Gig account, but still have international applications live (such as skype).

“Count the beans and one will realise this is the best service combination between cost and value in one account” says GM Bianca Petersen with a smile.

They should rater update their website to have a product called "ADSL with split billing", and show the rate for international only (R28.50 per GB) and show the rate for local only (R9.50).

So basically you choose an account, say a 5GB account. With that account, you can expect to get 5GB international only, or 15GB local only, or a combination of both. You can start using local only at the cheaper rate whenever you want to. You don't need to worry about first finishing your international cap, then browsing on sucky local only (no international access).

Hope that clears it up.

SAINET REALLLY REALLLY need to make this clearer on their website. The general structure of their website and products is really bad. There seems to be no clear hierarchy or structure. Very bad IMO. Also, they should consider using SEO-friendly URLs.

OK haha I think I might understand now. I get the package that is titled 5GB and if I use that 5GB for local I'll get 15GB local, but if I use it for international it will just be 5GB.
So like the example if I use 3GB of local it will only count towards 1GB of the entire 5GB package? Then theoretically I could use the remaining 4GB for international?

Have I got it now, or am I still hopelessly lost?

Nope you've got it! It's a pity that for such a great product, which we have all been asking for since 5 years ago, they describe it and market it so poorly. Plus the pricing is excellent!

Resurrecting an old post, but just curious. Is SAINET over SAIX or IS?
Also do they have news server access?

Thanks

Neither. They are a customer of IPINX, who has their own IPC link to Telkom. iBurst is also a customer of IPINX.

I don't know about news server access, but I highly doubt they have their own or have access to the IS and SAIX news servers.

That does suck, I want to sign up with them, but if they don't have either IS or SAIX news server access then I won't bother.
I'll send them an email.

Got an email back from them:

Hi

Currently we don’t have any news servers on our new network. However this is currently in discussion with Telkom to be added.
You will be notified when these services arrive.

Kind Regards
