Just solved an annoying problem on the Windows XP machine on which our Accounting package runs. The spooling service repeatedly failed to start and kept on giving me hazzles even after I used System Restore to roll back to a point before the problem started. My Accounting package flatly refused to start if the spooler did not want to start and it is quite embarrassing not to be able to print your customer's invoices.

I found the solution here. Basically it involves deleting the .shd and spl files from the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder. Works like a charm now.

I apologize if this is the wrong section but I do not see a windows user's forum here.
