Seen the grox, and faught with them
so - ive been to the centre of the galaxy, got 42 ammo for *Insta-T3* and watched the cutscene
Found Earth
colonized a few planets
setup a few trade routes
made millions apon millions
picked up a couple of relics (and traded a few) & Sculpting Tools
bought almost all technology there is to buy
Made alliances and took over some prev aliances
Got Most Badges available
Have Omnipotence Status

So...what do we do now? does the game end at all?
do we need to take over the entire galaxy, colonize every planet and get all badges and all Achievements? what??

Thats pretty short if thats the end of the game :(

but that's what i'm asking - there is no end?

will wright said it would take a person playing 24 hours a day about 65 years to just visit each planet.

isn't there an end?

so you do the same thing 24 hours a day for 65 years? .......... how boring.

Yeah that would get rather boring especially if you are already asking these questions after only 2 weeks.

That's like saying it will take 80 years to count each grain of sand on a specific beach. In the end, do you really want to do it?

Game isn't suppose to end. The idea behind Spore was to create a world/galaxy that'll keep involving with the help of player content kinda like second life. Maxis stated that they have long term plans for Spore. In other words a lot of expansions, but this is where Maxis got smart.

You have endless worlds to explore, we already know there's a wide variety of creatures thx to all the players, but it'll be pointless if every world looked the same. That's why the first expansion wil add the ability to create plant life. That already adds a variety to each world and like that spore will grow and grow. So in other words spore has no ending really. Earth and all that was just to add a goal a player can strive for. Spore is only at it's most basic atm.

Can't really say this without sounding cynical but anyway;

This basically means endless releases of "addons" and "upgrades" ala the Sims no doubt. The Sims is crap (though I did like it at first), all the addons just extend the crap, not saying Spore is crap as I haven't seen it yet, but it has been likened to The Sims.

How easy is it for end users to create their own content for Spore, can they even?

This is probably EA's secret right there. If you could do it in The Sims, then there would be no need for endless add-ons. That's why "Second Life", is in fact totally different because -players- create the content and you can then buy/sell it in game. Things like "The Sims : Pets" ...no one can tell me, that if that game was open to user created content, that someone wouldn't have made pets long before EA did.

So while you can sort of create your own creature, there's obvious signs it's not as "user defined" as you'd expect. You still rely on EAs "collection" of say "arms" to stick onto your body. I'm sure EA will "milk" this to the nth degree, with "mods" to add some vanity kind of flavor to some aspect of the game, and not allowing players access to the game-engine.

Yup im in a similar boat - been across the galaxy and to the centre, caught numerous black holes around the place, upgrade ship to maximum, made plenty of allies and enemies, plenty trade routes, bought systems all over the place...
But now what?
I even killed off a race that i created in one of my previous games....
I was heavily addicted, but now im bored and not sure if ill continue playing..

They touted the game as a creature creator. All the screenshots and media sent out were from the evolution stages.

Unfortunately going from a spore to galactic civilization, which I found really fun was over way too quickly and easily. The game then boils down to a space sim... which for me is not what I'm after or expected.

Also seeing as there is no final goal from flying around and taking over planets I'm really not motivated to continue playing.

Spore is a sandbox game, there is no real end.
Two weeks in plenty play time, just look at how many games there are that you can finish over one or two weekends (you know, the whole 30 hour and 40 hour play time thing always stated for RPGs and such)

I don't see the use of taking all the planets and such or even exploring the galaxy further in Spore. Some people like to play like that and set up trade routes and be diplomatic or take a few planets by force and all that. This game should have gone massive multiplayer with the space stage. Was great fun while it lasted but now I'm bored with it and moving onto the next game.
