Spray painting a car

Hi,

So my wife just scratched my car. The scratches are quite deep and very noticable.


Whats the best way to repair? Should I send the car for spray painting, or is there any other alternative?

When I google, I see people saying that spray paint comes off in the sun, and causes the value of the car to depreciate much more than just having the scratch. Is that true?

If I should send for spray painting, then can anyone recommend someone close to Benoni?

Deep Scratches require touch up paint, go to the dealerships parts and accessories department to find out if they have a bottle.

Without even seeing the scratches from his post it does not look like it's a touch up job, and the ignore "spray pinting comes of in the sun", cars are involved in incidents and are spray painted to repair the damage, there is no other way of fixing a scratch such as the one you have described.
 
Remember to take pictures of the scratches to prove it wasn't serious damage when selling the car. A professional approved panel beater will repair to almost as good as new.
 
Base coat paint repairs/respray can sometimes go pear-shaped after a few years. If it's solid colour then normally pretty bulletproof.

Get some polish, you can often polish off what looks like scratches, and if it's a solid colour then most automotive paint suppliers will make up 250ml of matched paint for around R100 or less, then take a fine artist's brush number 0 or 1 and carefully paint in the scratches, doing that makes a huge difference, from a distance it will almost look flawless.
 
Another question related to this:

Is it fine to take the car directly to BMW and ask them to repair it? Someone told me that they will make notes on the car, and that will diminish the value big time. Is that correct?
 
Op post some pictures 's of the damage both that whole side of the vehicle and close ups of the scratches, easier to help after seeing that.

Are the scratches only on the bumper, none on the side fender?

Polishing and touch up will make it look a lot better, fine if you are not finicky but if you want it to look pristine again it will need a respray. Price at a reputable panel beaters incl strip and assembly I'd estimate around R7500, seeing its hopefully on the bumper only I wouldn't worry about it developing paint defects etc, it's the flat panels that get direct sun that typically develop clearcoat failure.

Yep, I was right touch up paint is needed but obviously the area is large so rather take it to a panel beater or equivalent who will do a professional job.

Its on the bumper, and on the side fender (the panel above the tyre)
