Full Story

South Africa's rugby team has been found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute and fined for protesting Bakkies Botha's suspension by wearing armbands during the third Lions test.

Why am I not surprised.

IMO point proven by the Boks.

Lol at the silly fines. Really pointless excercise by the IRB...all this publicity actually benefited the Boks more as its brought the issue to the fore.

Well, at this stage the boks won, but if the IRB get there way, the Boks will be disqualified from the 2011 world cup... If that happens then the IRB won and the Boks have achieved absolutely nothing but to shame themselves.

I am in full support of the Boks and think that the IRB is just trying to cover themselves so that they don't look silly!

No... if we get disqualified, kark will hit the fan and the IRB will end up being screwed.
The world will go bos!

The IRB are a bunch of idiots, the are not consistant, they nail bakkies (and now SA) but don't punish the Lions for HALF the dodgy moves they did.

The IRB are idiots - they have overseen a fiasco for the past two years in terms of ELV's, they cannot get consistency in terms of citings and refs and then they have the audacity to fine us for suggesting they are clueless...

Any organisation is only as good as it's leadership. I think it may be time to elect new leadership.

Yes. Or atleast restructure so the guys bringing in the money... NZ, Aus, SA, Eng, etc etc have more say than the ring heads at the top who are bias.

@Keeper - You mean: What's wrong with protesting in public on extremely expensive paid-for television with over sensitive and nervous sponsors?

It's all about money. The Auz / NZ sponsors were all up in arms, suddenly scared of a potential split that could mean a tarnishing of their (the sponsor's) name. They applied STRONG pressure back at the board and the board went looking for a scapegoat. But ... the board has alternate motives as well. The tri-nations thing is no longer big enough for them.

A few things: Go ahead - suspend the Boks from the RWC. That would be like banning Robert Plant from a Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour. Seriously! Tell the cash cow you don't want its milk. Ban Brazil from FIFA 2010. It won't cost a cent.

Idiots!

My biggest problem however is not the IRB - it's John Robbie. At the time of this incident and as recently as this morning, he was saying how the IRB has acted correctly over the "pathetic Springbok behaviour". He has repeatedly called Bakkies a thug and said we don't need his kind of antics in rugby. He called the whole protest childish, irresponsible and stupid.

Dear Mr Robbie: just because you never experience solidarity from your fellow team mates in your heyday it does not mean such displays are stupid - it means they saw you for the d00s you are. I remember when PdV was appointed, you challenged Hoskins on air about ditching that other ego maniac Jake White. Hoskins had to remind you several times that the Robbie family does not control or own rugby and that you are not the be-all and end-all but just a know-it-all. Well, you continue to prove him right!
