So after another disappointing loss to your holyness Richie and Dan, I think it is time for a dedicated Bok thread to analyze, plan and discuss the merits and failures of our beloved green and gold. I dont think it should go under the general rugby thread since stuff tends to get lost in there anyway.

I think PdV has his combinations in the starting 15 all wrong even though he has, mostly, the right players. I dont think WO should be included in another Bok squad. As big a fan of him as I am at S14 and provincial level he has never managed to make the step up to international. JdV is NOT a wing under any circumstance. What snor was thinking of putting one of the best 12's in the world on the wing is a mystery to me. Januarie while a good player is not the best 9 at WP let alone the Boks, it is time for Pienaar to get some game time and for Hougaard to get used to international pace, Ricky's distribution has been poor and slow and his kicking game is terrible and we seriously need to start looking at life after FdP. Lastly Zane is good but not good enough and while he doesnt do much wrong he very rarely does anything magical. Frans Steyn for 15 any day of the week.

My team for Brisbane:

1 Steenkamp
2 Smit
3 Bj Botha
4 Russouw
5 Matfield
6 Louw
7 Burger
8 Spies

9 Pienaar
10 Steyn
11 Habana
12 Oliver (De Villiers on return from suspension)
13 Fourie
14 Aplon
15 Kirchner (Steyn for future squads)

The team imo is pretty strong as soon as we have F. Steyn and De villiers in their positions. Kirchner isn't a bad player to have on the bench as he is steady and he can play against the "weaker" countries.

Russouw has shown why he was rated the best lock by a lot of people in this years S14. I also feel Louw is not having the impact against the "big" teams as was hoped. Juan smith will hopefully be fit and ready soon. I would play Louw from the bench.

My bench would be:

Olivier (if he can learn to off load in the tackle he will be better than Brian O'Driscoll, mark my words :D)

Kirchner (steady enough and with lambie to young and Joe pietersen gone...)

Hougaard (If he can carry over the form from his s14 season he will be awesome, where have you seen a scrummie come into the S14 and play out of position and be amongst the top 3 in that position that year??!)

Bekker/Flip vd Merwe (I can not really think of any other locks that have shown as much promise)

Extra Prop (As I have said I know too little about them to make a call)

Bismarck (Always adds value to any forwards pack in the world.)

Deysel (He has shown he can be the perfect "Work horse" while having good ball ahndling skills and he defends like a demon) / Brussouw if he is fit.

The good thing was that as soon as RP took over the nr 9 jersey the boks looked like the better team on the field. I seriously hope that Snorre keeps playing him on scrummie as imo he is the answer as soon as Fourie du Preez goes overseas.

HA, Piet Pompies, I mean Pieter De Villiers will still pick Januarie at no 9 ahead of Pienaar. I predict another well raped Springbok side on Saturday. I hope I'm wrong though.

Forgot about a certain Juan De Jongh. Full side would go as follows:

1 Steenkamp
2 Smit
3 Bj Botha
4 Russouw
5 Matfield
6 Louw
7 Burger
8 Spies

9 Pienaar
10 Steyn
11 Habana
12 De Jongh (De Villiers on return from suspension)
13 Fourie
14 Aplon
15 Kirchner (Steyn for future squads)

16. B. Du Plessis
17 Vab der Linde
18 Bekker(Sykes since Beker is injured)
19 Deysel(or Brussow, Potgieter or any of the 100 world class flanks we posses)
20 Hougaard
21 Olivier
22 (This is actually difficult considering all the injuries so as of yet I don't have a proper 22 ie someone to cover the back 3)

The wings are too small, as is the fullback. The ABs keep going forward because they're bigger (and for some reason get more men to the breakdown). Choose one small and fast guy - you can't have them all.

Well as soon as Steyn wants to play and Jaantjies is fit you have your 2 first choice 15's. JP Pieterson is playing again and will hopefully remain injury free now for a good period of time+ you have Habana on the other wing and Aplon as an impact player. Then there is Hougaard who covers scrummie and wing. So your backline looks like this:

9 FdP, Pienaar, Hougaard
10 Steyn, Pienaar,(Grant?)
11. Habana, Aplon, Hougaard
12 JdV, JdJ and Olivier
13 Fourie, JdJ
14 Pieterson, Aplon Hougaard
15 Steyn, Jaantjies, Kirchner

If thats a world cup squad then you have 15 players if I counted correctly there but Kirchner and Olivier are leave-behindable so that is 13 of 27 in your squad.

Italics means expendable and underline means their name has appeared before.

We need Frans Steyn in the team against NZ. Carter then knows he is not the best kicker on the field, and this affects his play

We need him on any field because if you can punt 80m and drop kick 60m then you a danger to any team who doesn't kick the ball out. Lets not forget how dangerous a runner he is and at 100kg+ he is also a crash ball option. The man is a freak and needs to be wearing a Springbok jersey ASAP.

What do people think about the changes for Brisbane, Im not too sure about Kanko as a flank but otherwise a very good side with the exception of WO at 12 instead of De Jongh.

Can't - they using the merit system and not the ability to fill out black jersey while catching rays and growing a beer gut. The only way Pieterson could be slower is if we tied his shoelaces.

+1 pieterson is the most useless wing in SA rugby. I have never seen him "make" a try. If the goal line isn't open he isn't scoring. I would rather play John smit on the wing than him.

Imo Olivier should play outside centre because he just can not off load... There is nothing wrong with his abillity to hit a gap though. Only problem then is that you will taking Fourie out of the position that he has shown he is one of the best in the world, in. :(

I may possibly start to side with PdV, looks like there is a conspiracy to ref the boks out of a game. If it happened once ok, if twice it is just a coincidence but 3 in a row is more than just bad luck.

Hahaha, I think they should bring Jake back as a defensive coach and get rid of Dick Muir, PdV is a good man manager but as the picture suggests, knows **** bout readin I mean rugby.

There were no surprise inclusions, and if you look at the players called up, it appears the Boks will be sticking with their usual formula for the home test matches.

Several players who performed poorly in Australasia have been retained, and players who have displayed great form in the domestic competition recently, such as Western Province No 8 Duane Vermeulen and young Sharks player Patrick Lambie, have been ignored.

Yep, we will be losing our home matches too ...... ignorant, idiotic chops. Who in their right mind retains hardcore underachievers like Chiliboy, Januarie, BJ, Kirchner and Olivier, boggles my mind
