So I went to a Spur today that has been closed for a while.

Ordered a Rib Burger and Beer.

"Sorry sir, we don't sell alcohol and pork anymore because we're halaal"

Is this ALL Spurs or just some? Guess i'll be finding another restaurant, just a pity as it was conveniently located.

At the very least you should go back and thank them for this.

Probably just that one. I have had a similar experience with a specific Rocomama's...

No beer and no bacon? Well, then I will be leaving.

Not all Spurs no.
Most are not halal certified.

The establishment can't be certified if alcohol is served. So they need to decide whether the business coming from Muslim clientèle is worth more than what they'll lose by not serving alcohol.
Or as in most cases, the establishment is Muslim-owned or bought over so they can't sell alcohol anyways.

Unless you live Mosque central, thats a death sentence for any Spur

That's like saying Sorry Sir, we no longer produce Ferrari's with more than three cylinders.

Sunninghill. (JHB)
And its not a joke, it has a big Halaal sign on the window lol. And no alcohol, no pork.
I'm sure the owner must be Muslim. No one else will do this to their own business knowing it will affect some of their customer base.

Some Spurs are halaal, avoid those ones :)
