Hi everyone
I need some help to find an issue that has started cropping up on our network. I'm not sure if the problem is related to the Squid cache I have in place, the Windows computers, or some or another issue with Internet Explorer.
Basically, all the computers are in a Windows domain. To get internet access, they open IE, and use their Windows user name and password to get access. This I set in Squid, so that I have usage logs I can track. I upgraded the whole proxy server at the end of last term, and squid is now running at 2.6STABLE5 on OpenSUSE 10.2.
The default home page is set to the school's website via Group Policy. Right after putting in their user name and password, it takes the staff to the website. Or it should, and this is where the issue comes in.
Sometimes, right after they input user name and password, a save as dialog box opens up, asking them to save a file that is named xxxx.co.[] where xxxx is the name of our school. This doesn't happen on every computer or with every user, and it happens across both IE 6 and 7. It only happens on our school website, every other website is fine. Computers are virus and malware free as well.
Somehow it appears to be the document request from Squid isn't correct or something. I've also flushed the Squid cache and that didn't appear to help either. I've noticed that if I flush the user's profile on the local computer with a program called CleanUp, it deletes all IE related stuff and most times the site runs normally afterwards.
Either it's an issue with Squid somehow misbehaving, or it's an issue with IE's cache. This never happened with the much older version I had been running, nor did it happen when the school website was updated late in the afternoon when no one was accessing it. Now the site is updated during the day, so I wonder if that isn't also maybe an issue.
If anybody has any ideas, I'd be greatful.
Many thanks.
