Sri Lanka crisis

i'd rather the chinese owned land around here than ramapo3sa and his kind...at least the chinese are rich and can build things even in sucky circumstances like ...Africa.

All I know about Sri Lanka is Kumar Sangakkara, I wasn't aware there was or could be anything interesting about them.
You remind of a lady I once met at a bus stop in Juneau, Alaska. She thought South Africa is in Asia, next to India.

If some country goes down, it acts as a benchmark to see how far we are from post-94 disaster.

I feel for the people of Sri Lanka. Absolute destruction of their middle class happening. Unless their wealth is offshore they will probably see it all inflated away. Its a terrible thing to see. You could have diligently saved for retirement for 40 years and the government can make it vanish so fast in a scenario like this.

Plenty of my overseas friends don't have an idea where the s**thole is located, it's first world like that, and yes, I have overseas friends these days.

Maybe she remembered from her time when she was young, about 180 million years ago?

A good what happened article

Does the government have a plan to solve the crisis?

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said the government is now so short of funds that it will be printing money to pay employees' salaries. He warns this will lead to further price hikes, with inflation rising to 40%. He also says state-owned Sri Lankan Airlines could be privatised.

Printing money ie pretend to pay people by indirectly taking money from everyone else.
I'm surprised SriLankan airline is a profitable entity, not many airlines manage this. How much of a dent can this make though?

This is the start of the great fall of centralized governance. More countries will follow with SA bidding well to be next.

At least we are not compared to Zimbabwe, progress right?

Some people living in Australia are just wishing for us to turn into "Zim 2.0" just so that they can say "told you so". What losers they are with nothing better to do in life.

We get that we won't ever be an economic powerhouse but we won't really go down that route either. The context and factors of SA are completely different to Zim.

It would be better if they were in Australia but they are here being all miserable.
