Hi

So my SSD SanDisk decided to part with me today. Think I had it for maybe 2 years or so... It was my main drive with Windows loaded on it. When I first booted my PC earlier, I got an error saying that I must replace the bootable device and try again, or something like that. After several tries it finally booted up. After about 10 hrs running, the PC got really slow and eventually just froze up. I restated it and got the same error message popping up again, but this time no luck getting it booted.

I tried the drive on a different PC and it doesn't even pick up the HDD now. What could be the cause? Maybe the SATA port got damaged? Are there any companies out there that can restore the drive without it costing me an arm and a leg, or maybe software that can fix this...

I lost all my work emails (2013 - 2018) and for some reason my backup emails seemed to have vanished as well :(

Thanks, any help would really be appreciated.

Just get a new ssd and restore off an image backup. You do have backups, right?

That would have been the smart thing to do :erm:

The thing is, I made backups of my emails (PST) to another drive, but that's gone as well. The emails are the most important thing that was on my SSD, the rest of my work are all stored on different drives.

This is why IMAP is king, no need to worry about PST files and all that BS.

Once an SSD packs up, then that's it. You will not be able to get your files off, no matter what you do.

That is why spinning rust still is preferred by some, as you can do 100% data recovery in some cases.

Ask Southbit.co.za for their opinion.
Always make backups onto a spinning disk or online.

Regarding your email. You can always create a rule to forward all emails to a backup gmail address. Better than nothing.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks man.

Thanks SYNERGY, will def get in touch with them.

Yeah that's actually also not a bad idea. Will be more careful in the future.

A timely reminder to check my own backups, sorry for the loss OP - that sucks.

Or tell the company to go hosted exchange.

POP, in this day and age, seriously... Must be a Noob IT Admin.
