SSD inaccessible - Recovery tool

A few months ago, I purchased a 1Tb SSD drive for offline backups of my music and pictures. Hiksemi is the make....I should have known a semi is good for nothing as FF a few months and me wanting to copy some music to a USB drive and DEAD!! The godamn POS is dead :-( ! My desktop pics it up but not initialized. What HW is available to try and recover the data? The music can be replaced as I have all the CDs but my pictures are irreplaceable.
 
So Drives G: and I: are the offending drives. I have a feeling I will need a HW based tool like a USB Isolator to get to my data?

Yep, these drives are rubbish. Have a few dead ones.
 
Put your data in the cloud. Google photos are free if you are happy with the resolution dropping.

You can even encrypt it before syncing to the cloud if you want to protect it further.
 
Actually, SSDs have lower failure rates than HDDs.

But yeah I agree. Rather use two mirrored HDDs than one SSD for backups.

There are trade offs, hdd have mechanical points of failure but have no limit (theoretically) on data writes whereas ssd have no moving parts but limited life time on data writes.

Doesn't really matter at the end of the day, cause the chance of failure is greater than zero in both cases.

Hence two drives. If one fails you're still fine.
 
Generally, when an SSD dies it DIES because the flash memory itself can become inaccessible. I have never been able to recover a dead SSD.

if you do want to backup to an SSD maybe look at a raid 1 or raid 5 and just to note raid is not a form of backup but it creates more redundancy.

You can also backup to a local NAS or external HDD.

I would then also run scheduled backups off-site to something like https://www.z1storage.com/ which is local S3 and far cheaper than AWS or Azure.
