I want to upgrade my pc and have current foxconn h61mxl-k motherboard.
I also have a 750gb WD Green drive (SLOW).
Would it be better to get a SSD or motherboard that supports sata3 and usb3 etc?
Budget around R1200 give or take.
I currently have:

Intel Core i3-3240 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
Foxconn h61mxl-k motherboard
750w Power Supply - would have to check name
Ati 6790
8gb ram
1 x 750GB WD Green HDD
1 x 1TB Seagate HDD, whom seems to be not in good shape.

Any recommendations?

A SSD will certainly speed up many functions. What about your current setup bothers you?

A SSD on SATA2 is still fast.
You will see more improvement with the SSD then a new Mobo.

Well whenever I load Visual Studio it takes some time to start up and load projects. Even compiling.
Sluggish hdd browsing is my main concern, but I also want a upgrade that'll be better in the long run.
So maybe SSD then?

SSD is the better upgrade option here. Finding a 128GB drive for R1200 will be nearly impossible, though. Budget at least another R400 for a 128GB model with shipping fees added.

Thnx, wouldn't 60gb be fine?
Just looking to run Win8 and Visual Studio, maybe office on it.
I'm fine with running my games on the other hard drives.

It is sad that you have the word NAG in your username.

Sandisk Standard - Solid State Drive - 128GB R1099 inc delivery

SanDisk Extreme - Solid State Drive - 120GB R1199 inc delivery

Sandisk Ultra Plus - Solid State Drive - 128GB R1299 inc delivery

By the way that motherboard you have is what failures are made of. It is a seriously crap board. While it can do the job, I would advise get a decent motherboard as cheap motherboards like power supplies have a high failure rate. Some of the advantages would be:

- much better features (USB3.0 +USB3.0 header, SATAIII 6Gbps ports, 7.1 audio, 4 RAM slots, many expansion slots etc)
- three year warranty
- solid electrical components

MSI Intel H77MA-G43 - Dual Channel DDR3 Socket 1155 Motherboard R1029 inc delivery

MSI Intel Z77A-G43 - Chipset Socket 1155 - Motherboard R1262 inc delivery

I think he was referring to vertex SSD's.
Would I see such a large improvement with games by running them on my SSD? I have read that it's only load level's faster, which isn't really much concern. So 64gb might be enough for Windows and Visual Studio?
How is the scandisk drive's durability?
I was looking at this for option:
http://www.biosonline.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=52168 ADATA 60GB S510 Series SATA III 2.5" SSD
or even
http://www.biosonline.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_529_199&products_id=57876OCZ Agility 4 64GB 2.5" SATA III SSD

Isn't the 77 series more for overclocking?
B75MA-E33 | MSI Intel B75MA-E33 B75 Chipset is this also a crap board?

Looking at this 2 I might be able to fit in both SSD and new MOBO, or should I rather just settle for rocksolid one of either.

Eh? I usually don't have TAKEALOT in mind with looking for a SSD recommendation (or hardware in general, really, since Take2 died). They're pricey on a lot of things, which is why I usually look elsewhere. Although those SanDisks are decently priced, well spotted.

They're good. SanDisk makes their own memory chips and usually use Sandforce controllers, so they're about as good as any other SSD at the same price range. I wouldn't have a problem running or recommending one, although you will need a 3.5" adapter bracket for it.

Out of the two SSDs you were looking at, the Agility 4 is the better choice. The ADATA drive is over a year older and will not be as fast.

Wesley would you say the MSI motherboard isn't too bad?
Will prob replace the mobo after 2-3 years, thats usually my span.

The Agility 4 looks good for @ R733.

I'm running an MSI b75 matx motherboard on my htpc and both the usb 3 slots on the back have stopped working. Personally I will only buy asus in the future.

Thanks, went with takealot in the end. 64gb SSD and the Gigabyte Motherboard, should receive them tomorrow.

You will regret a 64gb ssd, why did you buy a new mobo?

I would have bought a 128gb ssd and bought a new mobo at a later stage. If the mobo is doing a fine job why replace it and leave yourself with a hdd that will fill up fast? I will give you an example of a 60gb hdd filling up quickly. Bf 3 30gb, windows 15-20gb now already you are struggling for space. Anyways you can make a 60gb hdd work, just don't install bf 3 on it :p

I don't really game that much so for my needs 64gb is just fine. Looking to run Win and VS and Dreamweaver etc on the ssd, leave the games on the hdd.
I mostly play football manager or LOL and on occasion something like metro.
The foxconn mobo have one month left on warranty, so looked to replace it with something bit newer.
