I was informed that the Eskom SSEG registration costs at least R18,000.
Is it necessary to register as SSEG?
It would make a joke of the solar panel cost tax break.

You don’t need to post the same thing multiple times.

As for the question, I haven’t heard of anyone that’s actually done this through Eskom direct.

Sorry for the multiple posts. New user mistake.
I tried to make sure that I checked the box for email updates.
Is it legally compulsory to register SSEG with Eskom direct.

apparently since last year october eskom is forcing their customers to change to the homeflex tariff before they approve sseg registrations.

A more interesting question is can they actually enforce it? As far as I know the City of Cape Town is the only authority in the country that is actively enforcing SSEG registrations through the use of aerial photography. Not sure if Eskom has the same capacity though.

I am an Eskon Direct user and seeing as they have not done their yearly meter audit in 9 years; I doubt they enforce anything.

I have a bit of a dilemma though, I have a Landis+Gyr Sabre prepaid meter than can go into tamper mode on reverse feed. Guess I will find out soon if that will happen when the Victron overshoots...and if Eskom will then reset it for me.

Maybe the techs won't care about the "unauthorised" SSEG setup.

Of course they won't, they are there to fix their network, not to enforce laws.

Any source for that?

an email response from wc eskom

says the prepaid customer should apply for a conversion to homeflex tariff and have the meter installed before an application for sseg can be registered.
