Stabbed Heidelberg boy in stable condition

a) You stopped wearing your 9mm?

b) Township justice is all very well, but mobs can pretty easily be misdirected. There needs to be some sort of fair and independent arbiter. However, the government has failed us by instituting an ineffective legal system and encouraging light sentencing and leniency as an expedient means of dealing with overcrowded court rosters and prisons.

Change is needed.

yes, i stopped carrying, when my daughter was born. looks like i'll be packing again. let them come.

"Township justice" seems the way to go.
We are well into the territory of "rather one innocent person wrongly convicted than 10 criminals set free" now.
Only a civilized country can afford the luxury of "rather no innocent people convicted, but 5 criminals are acquitted"

And yes, before the moralists attack me, I am well aware I may be the "one innocent" - but, I am MUCH more likely to be the victim of crime in the current situation.

The crimes are becoming violent more gruesome by the day. A shocking trend that is developing, is to bludgeon someone's skull in. Can only imagine they are doing this to avoid being heard at night.

Guys, please dont dismiss an odd sound at night as your imagination. Call your neighbours, ask them if they heard anything or can see anything outside.

Bring back the death penalty. I hear the liver-lillied liberals saying that there are no statictics to show that the death penalty is a prevention to crime.

To hell with that! I'm talking PUNISHMENT, not prevention.

I closed this thread with the intention of making a few edits and then hoping for the best - unfortunately just as I hit close the power went off and the adsl went with it. Power is still off but as luck would have it telkom sorted their mess out.

Hopefully calmer heads will prevail . . .

Thanks, I have added a couple more to my Ignore list because of some of the posts. This forum is just getting nicer by the day after I started using it.

On subject, this type of action is typical of the problems here in South Africa and even abroad but to a lesser extent. The world is becoming nastier by the day and I just hope everyone does not resort to the UK tactics of having a camera on every street corner.

I say that instead of limiting our liberty we should severely limit the liberty of the criminals, to draconian levels if necessary. They're the guilty ones after all.

I was watching Morning Live today, I heard this story, along with 2 or 3 other stories about children being murdered/raped/abused/whatthehellever..

Even Lee Ann Manas had a comment on that.

What is this country and world coming to if 3 or 4 of the "top stories" is about kids getting killed/raped/stabbed....

A 5 year old girl get kidnapped and raped, then she finds here way back to some other people who report it.

What the faarking hell is going on!?!?!?!?!!? I want to cry when I listen to the morning news. And because I'm someone with a (controlled) short temper, I want to find one of those bastards who do it and kill them....

I don't give a shoot about race, religion or whatever, someone who harms a child is a monster, and should be removed from society, permanently... Rights? Well, once they are found guilty in a court of law, it is fairly obvious they don't give a **** about other people's rights, why should they be given rights (after being found guilty through proper legal process)?

Aaahh man, I'm just so sad with everything going on, with all the honest ppl in South Africa.... Can the ppl who don't want to fight and just make things work get ourselves and everyone else to a better society?

I wish I knew.......

We should have the right to cordone off our suburbs and restrict access.
To hell with the "rights" of people who want to wander around.

Yeah I agree Moederloss, was even gonna have a talk about the same thing to my parents. We live in a community where our local newspaper now CONSISTENTLY has about the first 8 pages FULL of stories relating to crime and I'm certain that if our community was to be run like a large "gated" community where we restrict access to resident s and visitors only (or something along those lines), crime would fall.

BUT if that's done we'd be labelled as you-know-what.

You know, even total restriction is not neccessarily the only way.
But sign in, smile at a camera etc will deter many criminals.
And only two types of people will complain:
1) Liberals
2) Criminals

I think this a great idea. It increases security while not greatly affecting peoples freedom of movement.

It affects my freedom of movement, I have to drive all the way around to Atturbury Value Mart through 5 additional traffic light sets because of a road closure thing...

Hmm, my second post, the one orin responded to, does not mention closures.
It is merely a checkpoint.

So true. It's rather disturbing how liberals and criminals( add terrorists as well) so often agree . They don't seem to realise that by being a bedfellow with this lot you are bound to catch something unpleasant
