Stage 1 loadshedding from 9am Monday

South Africa is a SUN blessed and wind blessed country. There should be zero daytime loadshedding at any power level.

I'm liking how Eksdom is handling things right now. Finally some structure to load-shedding, not these shock announcements with 5 minutes warning. We can at least plan our lives around the schedule.

How's the DA IPP court challenge going?

Only going to be heard in May, 3 months to wait.

Yeah but I don't understand how they are doing it? Are they running reserves between those times to meet demand then when stage 2 starts again 6pm they switch the reserves off?

This is not a bad approach to things actually. Good job Eskom, in the circumstances.

Agreed on some levels... but the "it will be confirmed each day" part just makes things largely a guess for industrial areas that would be shed on those days at those times......

They're switching from building reserves to using them...

So instead of pumping water up to the dam above the hydro station, they let it flow down to make up the shortfall, then at 6pm start pumping it back up. Same story for diesel burning plants.

The shortfall this morning was in the 11000's so they are not tight tight. If outages were in the 12/13000's they would not have the margin to give this 2hour drive home window

Eskom to halt power cuts between 4pm and 6pm to ease traffic congestion

Eskom says it will suspend rotational load shedding between 4pm and 6pm on Monday to "help ease traffic congestion".
Power cuts will then resume at 6pm and continue until 6am on Tuesday.
"Suspending load shedding during the peak traffic hours is a pilot programme aimed at achieving an appropriate Loadshedding Philosophy for the country," the utility said in a statement. "As this is not possible everyday, it will be confirmed each day, dependent on the risk based on the available capacity and emergency reserves on the day."

The utility will also try and suspend power cuts between 6am and 9am every morning. Power rationing will continue until Thursday morning at 6am.

I thought CT was leading the pack with solar- and wind-powered traffic lights and signs? Have I missed something? Yes it will work IF the panels and batteries are not stolen regularly.
we don't need batteries and solar, just replace the globes with ones that have batteries inside the globe, it can charge when the power is on.

Now we just need to advertise the tender...
For something that can easily be fitted and maintained by the city workers.

It really seems to me like they're warming everyone up to the idea of long term shedding. A concession here and there and the next thing you know...

They should actually just announce it and be over with it. Permanent stage 2 until further notice.

At least everyone can plan around it, and business and investors know what to expect.

Last minute notifications and unplanned outages doesn't do anyone any good...

Oh no, stop giving us tips until you do something about it like this for example:
